"Did she just slap her" I thought out loud. I immediately covered my mouth realizing how loud I was. I put my ear back to the door to hear that the sobs had stopped, and footsteps were coming toward the door.
In a panic I jumped up from my spot on the floor and sat back in my chair, pulling out my phone to make it look like I was doing something.
Alma opened the door with an angry look, but then she noticed that I was in the same spot she left me, and her look changed into a look of confusion. I looked up at Alma with the look on my face matching hers
"Is something the matter?" I asked politely
"Oh no I just thought I heard you-uh call me" she said nervously, obviously lying but I, of course, said nothing.
"Oh no ma'am" I said with a frown, following along with her lie as well as mine
"Oh, stay there I won't take long" she said while giving me another sickly-sweet smile and once again closing the door behind her. Before it fully closed, I caught a glimpse of Mirabel, she had tears running down her plump checks as well as a red mark on her right check.
A frown set itself on my face as I felt sorrow for the girl, I wanted to do something, but I was too scared. Instead, I got up again and went right back to my place on the floor listening in to their convo.
"Why can't you do anything right? Why don't you try taking after your sisters and cousins, even that Y/N girl surprisingly is a great influence" Alma continued to scold Mirable and overall be way too hard on her.
I caught on to what she said, and it made me question what she meant by ' surprisingly'. I just pushed it out of my mind and focused on Alma's ranting
"But Abuela, I do try" Mirabel defended herself. but Alma had absolutely no chill
"Well not hard enough, I should get Y/N to train you on how to be a proper Madrigal because she's way more polite than you" At this point Alma was just taking out any and all of her anger on Mirabel and I just felt more and more pity for her. I also didn't like the way I was somehow being dragged into this argument. My name was coming out of Alma's mouth way too much for my liking.
After a while of listening, I had to pee, like really bad.
'So much for ' I'll be back shortly' I said while squeezing my legs to together to try and smuggle the feeling of having to piss, which to my dismay didn't work.
"Damn bitch, I gotta go bad" I said out loud, except I whispered it.
'Fuck this shit, YOLO' I thought while getting up and opening the door. Alma was frozen in place while Mirabel snapped her head over to me,
"Ahem, do you need something Ms. L/N?" Alma asked me, clearing her throat and straightening her composure.
"I need to pi- Use the bathroom" I quickly corrected myself remembering who I was talking to
"Do you know where it is?" Alma asked
"No ma'am" I answered truthfully. Even though I knew my answer would get Mirabel in a lot more trouble I knew that the bell to switch classes was gonna ring soon and I didn't want to get lost in the crowd.
"Alright" Alma said while glaring at Mirabel and pulling out her walkie talkie
"Please send Camilo to my office" she said into it before turning to face me again with that same sickly-sweet smile
I tensed slightly at the mention of the boy's name and got slightly excited to talk to him again, alone this time.
"Please head back to my office wait for my grandson to come take you" Alma said leading me back to where I came from
"Yes ma'am" I said walking into the room and plopping myself down in the seat. Alma smiled at me then closed the door. Instead of eavesdropping again I just pulled out my phone and scrolled on TikTok while trying not to think about how much I have to piss.
After about 3 mins I heard a familiar voice that made me shoot my head up with a cheesy smile
"We meet again Hermosa"
