Chapter 1

A long day at school just ended, the top student, Xiao, hated going back home after school more than anything. All that he would hear once he arrives home are the shouting and scolding of his parents, ranting on and on about the tiny mistakes he made on his school activities. His parents were greedy, nothing was ever enough for them, being top of his class meant nothing when he makes one or two mistakes on his tests. In short it was suffocating at home, he preferred staying overtime at school cleaning the tables but one lazy afternoon curiosity got over him.

He can always hear a piano playing after school, the music was beautiful in a way he couldn't describe in words. Other than cleaning the classroom to pass the time, he found interest on the sound of the piano playing making him stay longer at school before going back home.

Xiao decided to follow the sound to the band club room and there he was, someone unfamiliar.

"You're here ive been waiting for you, what's your name?" The stranger asked with a smile on his face.

"Who are you?"

"I asked you a question first" Seriously who is this guy? Im the top student here, how could he not know my name? Xiao said to himself holding back his irritation.

"Xiao"

"Its a nice name but come on why so cold? I expected you to be smart enough to know that you should be polite to people, ya know first impressions matters Mister Top-student!" The stranger teases.

"You know who i am why bother asking my name?" Xiao replied with slight anger in his voice.

"Students often call you 'The top-student' how would I know your name?"

"...Well! I didn't came here to talk to you, where's the guy who was playing the piano? I wish to talk to him" Xiao didn't want to admit defeat so he tried changing the subject.

"Aren't you going to ask my name?"

"I don't think your name is worth knowing, mister"

"Hmp! If you wanna talk to the person who played the piano earlier then you'll have to ask me my name first"

"You're wasting my time, quit it and tell me where they are"

"Venti"

"Venti?" Xiao asked in confusion

"It's my name, they left already so try your luck tomorrow"

"I don't like wasting my time so I'd rather not come back, i was just curious anyways" ( Author made him extra salty in this fic frfr )

Xiao left and packed his things ready to go home, it was raining outside the school, luckily he always brings an umbrella for times like this.

That annoying stranger, Venti, was there again, he was standing outside the entrance door of the school. Xiao assumed he didn't have an umbrella with him and was waiting for the rain to stop, it was non of his business and Xiao didn't bother sharing his umbrella. He passed him by and opened his umbrella ignoring the stranger as if he wasn't even there, it was getting dark and he needed to go home quickly before the sun fully goes down.

The stranger went through his mind, by the little conscience he has left for the stranger he thought to himself that he might still be waiting for the rain to stop. By the looks of it, it didn't look like the rain will be stopping soon.

"You came back" Venti had a smile on his face as if he knew he would, and it annoyed Xiao a bit.

Xiao held the umbrella close to Venti insisting on sharing the umbrella "Hurry up the rain wont stop anytime soon, im not doing this for free so you'll have to tell me who the pianist was tomorrow. Got it?"

Venti only smiled at him in reply, Xiao doesn't understand this guy but he assumed it was Venti agreeing to sharing an umbrella with him.

"Lets go"

Venti followed Xiao for 10 minutes now, he wasn't saying anything he was just..smiling? It was odd he seemed as if he was enjoying sharing an umbrella with Xiao, he was weird but Xiao didn't hate it.

"Where to? Your place i mean" Xiao asked breaking the silence between both of them.

"Just up ahead, would you like to stay in my apartment for a while? I can brew you a cup of coffee as thanks for this hehe!" Venti was much more enthusiastic than when he first met him almost an hour ago.

Xiao didn't decline his offer, his parents are probably at home not giving a damn where Xiao was anyways, plus this'll be his first time visiting a schoolmate's house.

"Were here, come on in I'll make us a cup of coffee"

Venti's place was..rather messy, there were medicine pills at the table and the sofa pillows were everywhere, at the floor and some where at the dining table. The only organized place he saw was a table beside a small bookshelf which he assumed was his study area, notesheets were scattered at the floor and his bed was unmade.

Id be too embarrassed to even invite someone in a place like this Xiao thought to himself, but there was one thing Xiao noticed, there weren't pictures of family members or even friends, Venti's parents weren't around either. Xiao was curious but the thought struck his mind that Venti might've been living alone, they were in collage afterall so it wasn't really that special.

"Forgive me, it's messy in my apartment but feel free to make yourself feel at home"

Xiao had many questions but he thought it was better to save them for later once he feels comfortable.

Xiao can smell the scent of the coffee, it wasn't bad, it was quite pleasant for his liking.

"Hey Venti was it?" Xiao was hesitant but he had a lot of questions that needed answers too so he had to make a move now before they finish drinking the coffee Venti made.

Venti has a surprised expression after hearing Xiao call out his name, it was unexpected for the stubborn top-student to call his name out of the blue.

"What did you mean by you were waiting for me? You told me that earlier at the band club room, Im curious"

Venti sighed "Well it would've been nice if you asked this tomorrow but i guess it's time i give you an answer in return for sharing your umbrella to me" "I was the one playing the piano"

Xiao scoffed "You? Quit joking around i want an honest answer"

"Ahaha..don't believe me? I'll play you a tune but it'll cost you, whatddya say?" Venti says with a smug grin on his face prepared to whoop Xiao's ass with his piano-playing for thinking he was joking around.

"Go on then, play me a tune"

Venti reaches out for the small keyboard at his desk and started playing the song Xiao could listen to for hours. Venti's fingers gracefully dropped on the keys of the keyboard with proficiency as music filled the room and Xiao was left speechless.

"What do you think? Is it worthy enough to be played on stage at the band festival? Hehe be honest!"

"..Can you..play it again?" Xiao replied in want.

Venti expected Xiao to insult his skills but he guesses Xiao really liked the tune he played
"You like it that much? You don't seem like the type who accepts defeat" Venti said with a proud smile on his face knowing victory was his after leaving Xiao speechless.

Venti was about to play again when Xiao's phone rang, it was his mother. Xiao didn't want to answer it but if he did he'll only get non-stop yells once he gets back home.

"Excuse me, its my mother" Xiao informed Venti and quickly rushed outside the apartment.
