Even though the Jakz were an utterly unwarlike, fun-loving, and peaceful species, they carried on the ancient tradition of riding the horned fighting beetles (dynastes hercules humungus) native to their homeworld. The common perception is that it makes them look both "cool" and "attractive" during mating season. This is true for both sexes with many females preferring to attach their sticky eggs directly to the shells of the famed beetles. There's a popular saying among the spacefaring tree frogs that states, "You've never really done it until you've done it while riding a battle beetle."
