Cap's Biggest Mistake

WARNING! Spoilers ahead.

I think that we can all agree that Steve Rogers has made some mistakes. For example, during the mission in Lagos in Civil War, Steve hesitated to take out Rumlow simply because he had mentioned his old friend Bucky. Because of that action, 11 people died. This incident also influenced the Sokovia Accords; which then led to the Avengers 'disbanding' and a whole lot of drama...

Come to think of it, I probably would have froze as well if I was in Steve's position. Steve technically didn't do anything wrong, but he didn't exactly do the right either. Even though he may not act like it, Steve is still human, Super Solder or not. It's much easier to take out an enemy when it's not personal, but when it is, your emotions can have an impact on your decisions.

Another mistake Steve made was not allowing the mind stone to be destroyed. In Steve's defense, the situation was very different when he made the call. Steve was trying to do what he thought was right, and that's what is important. Even if that particular choice did lead to half of all life within the universe being erased...

Trusting S.H.I.E.L.D. definitely turned out to be a mistake. Again, In his defense, Peggy Carter, someone he loved and trusted had helped to co-found the organization. Plus, S.H.I.E.L.D. had taken care of Steve's basic needs.

Still, after Steve figured out what S.H.I.E.L.D. really was, he did the 'right' (this is relative) thing, taking the proper course of action.

Not telling Tony that his parents were actually murdered was also a decision that led to more trouble. Technically, Steve didn't really know all the details, but he did have a vague idea of what actually happened that night. What was admirable however, is that Steve did own up to what he did, and did his best to reconcile with Tony.

Refusing to compromise on the accords may not have been the best course of action and a lapse in judgment, but Steve truly thought what he was doing was right. I respect that.

People often complain that Steve's decision to travel back in time at the end of Endgame to be with Peggy Carter was a selfish decision, but I think I can understand why Steve did it.

Traveling nearly 70 years into the future can be really overwhelming and takes some time to mentally adjust too. Steve tried to make the best of it; but I can't imagine what was really going through his head. No matter how accustomed Steve might have been to the present day, it still wasn't home. So when Steve saw that he had a second chance to get his old life back, he didn't think twice. Neither would I.

I'm also going to add in the part about how in Captain America: The Winter Soldier Steve chose not to wear a helmet while riding a motorbike. While it was true that Cap was dealing with a lot of trauma at the time, it still doesn't excuse what he did. Not wearing a helmet universally promoted unsafe behavior to young imprintable minds.

Personally I thought that all the drama that went on with Bucky was kind of over the top and unnecessary, but I suppose we just have to "Respect the process."

Remember: It takes a lot of courage to stand up to an enemy, but even more to stand up to a friend.

All of these mistakes are somewhat understandable and we can sympathize with them. However, one mistake that Cap made will forever overshadow the others.

Shannon Carter.

As you may recall, During Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Cap took Natasha's advice and asked out his next door neighbor. This was before Steve knew who she was.

What bothers me is that after he knew who she really was, he still kissed her. I mean DUDE! Stop making out with your dead ex-girlfriend's grandniece! That is just so wrong. Like I can't even--

I think that a lot of us can agree that this is messed up on so many levels. What makes it even worse is that he decides to go back in time to be with Peggy at the end of Endgame. Like, Damn. I can't even see Tony doing that, and that says something. Does your wife know that you pursued her future grandniece even though you actually knew who she was? Huh, Steve?

This is a huge blight on Steve's record. I can never look at him the same. The image forever haunts me, and no, I'm not just being dramatic. I mean, who does this?

Sorry Steve fans but whenever I hear 'good ole Cap' or 'America's golden boy' my mind just goes straight to this. Or more specifically, her.

After watching Captain America: The First Avenger, I had more or less concluded that Steve had a heart of gold and was truly a sweetheart. But then again, I can't really picture a half decent person let alone Steve doing what he did.

Because I truly believe that Steve is a good person, I have decided to chalk up the Shannon Carter incident to 'under post traumatic stress' and that he 'wasn't in his right of mind.' Now let's just hope that history won't repeat itself, because my emotional welfare can only handle so much...
