Walking into school seemed like more a of a chore than a privilege. There was a feeling of uneasiness hanging over me like a rainstorm. The first day of school can sometimes be a drag, but once you get through it, the days come easier. However, that's just the problem - getting through the day.
It's my last year in high school, and I intend to make it memorable. First thing's first, though- is figuring out just how to make it out alive.
I step into the hallways, hearing kids talking about their summers, the new kids looking lost, and the regulars meeting up with friends.
"Laura!" I heard a voice call me. I turn around to see Ava, standing there with her new superstar boyfriend - yeah, what a shock.
"Ava, hey, I didn't know you died your hair," I said, looking at her newly shaded brunette hair. She'd been blonde as long as I've known her. "Oh yeah, sorry, I just really liked the color, and Ross said he likes it on me much better," she bragged, as I looked over to Ross signing autographs. "You do know he isn't standing here, right?" I asked and she looked over her shoulder.
She sighed. "Okay, truth is, I miss being blonde! Ross said his favourite hair shade is brunette though!" she complied. I rolled my eyes. "It doesn't mean you have to change everything about yourself Avs, you need to tell him you don't like the color," I said and she nodded as he walked over to us, but like Ava does, she chickened out.
"Oh Ross, I forgot to introduce you to Laura, my best friend," Ava says and he holds his hand out to me. "Hi, I'm Ross," he said, smiling at me. I shook his hand. "And I'm Laura, but I think you already knew that," I said before looking back to Ava.
"Is he going to school here now?" I asked and she shook her head. "Just came to drop me off," Ava said, pulling me away. "See you later Ross!" I said before he smiled at me and hugged Ava before leaving the school.
"So, do you like him?" Ava asked, and I shrugged. "He's cool," I stated, looking at my phone, realizing it was almost time to go to class. "Just cool? I finally wanted a boyfriend that you liked!" Ava complained. "Ava, I never said I didn't like him," I told her, trying to calm her down. "Okay good, because I really want our relationship to last for a long time, I really like him," Ava said, getting all giddy.
I roll my eyes and laugh, walking into my first class and sitting beside my friend Rocky. "Hey," he said, dryly. I laugh. "Hi Rocky, ya' know for someone in calculus class, you don't seem that happy," I said, setting my stuff down.
He sighs and looks up at me, and immediately I know what it's about. Rocky has always liked Ava, and I always helped him try to let her see that, but Ava only sees him as a friend, and it kills him inside. "She's dating a rock star now Laur, what am I supposed to do?" he sighs. I feel for him, I mean how are you supposed to compete with that?
"Well, Ava did dye her hair brown," I said, hoping it would help. "Yeah, I saw, it looks really good on her," Rocky said sadly, before he stopped talking altogether to listen to the lesson. What to do, what to do.
Secretly, I think Rocky and Ava would make a great couple, but Ava doesn't see it, not at all.

First day - done. Thank goodness.
Let this be a lesson, never go into your first day of senior year thinking it'll be a breeze.
As I'm leaving I see Ross, standing by his car, waiting for Ava, or so I think. I saunter over to him, because I mean, if he's dating Ava, might as well get to know him.
"Looking for someone?" I asked, standing next to him. He smirked at me. "Yeah, but she's late," he said, shoving his hands into his pockets, leaning against his car. I laugh. "She has volleyball practice," I said, laughing. He smiled down at me and gave a me a small shove. "What's so funny? And why does she have volleyball practice on the first day of school?" he asked, catching my laugh.
