The day is here, it's finally that day. Friday, the day Mim has been dreading more and more as each day before passes. Since Monday, she's had about 5 panic attacks, rethought her existence at least 7 times and has attempted running away, a solid, 3 times. Each time these things happened, she was always calmed down and reassured by her friends and family. The running away thing though, has now caused all of them to be afraid that she's become a flight risk and no one will leave her alone for more than 30 minutes in case she flees. But she's never felt more loved and cared for in all her 15 years of living.

They have so much faith in her that for a few hours today, Mim has to suck it up and prove that their faith in her is not misplaced. She can do that for them. After everything they've done for her, she can do this. She can. She totally can. Yeap.

She can't do this.

Just as that thought enters her mind and her body swivels to run in the opposite direction, Mim is stopped. Oh for the love of- How do they keep doing this? She thinks.

"Where ya going?" Tiny asks in a sing-song voice

"Bathroom?" Mim answers it as a question

"You just went like 10 minutes ago. Try again." Tiny says unimpressed

"Okay okay." Mim sighs in defeat, "I can't do this, Tiny." Mim says as she scuffs her shoe against the floor.

"Yes you can Mimi. You can." Tiny says, grabbing both of Mim's hands with her own and looking right at her. "I know you know how much we all believe in you, but Mim, you need to believe in yourself too. Believe in the fact that you can write. Believe that you're doing this for other people who've been in this position. Believe that you're doing this for little girls out there that dream to write. Believe that you can do this. For yourself Mim. No one, but yourself. Okay?"

Mim pulls her little sister into a tight hug.

"Ugh, when did my baby sister become so wise?" Mim mumbles into Tiny's hair and they pull apart

"I've always been wise. The clothes just throw you off." Tiny replies with a wink, "You can do this okay? We'll be right in front."

Mim takes a steadying breath and nods, "Okay. I can do this." And she lets go of Tiny's hands and turns back towards the stage as Mrs King starts to address the crowd.

"Hello everyone! Students, teachers. Oh! I see some parents at the back there." Mrs King starts to say and waves a little enthusiastically to the crowd and Mim peeks out of the side curtains and spots her Mom towards the back.

"Well, this is certainly turning into something exciting isn't it?" Mrs King says excitedly. "Now let's welcome our two students and get on with it, shall we!" She adds "Mr Jason Porter and Miss Miranda Lee, please come on out!" And the auditorium goes wild with everyone cheering their names and applauding them.

Mim steps out and stands to the left of Mrs King while Jason stands to the right. Jason is confidently smiling and waving at the crowd, hyping them up while Mim shyly gives the crowd a curt wave and smile. She spots her sisters and friends sitting in the front, Tiny having just taken her seat, and that helps calm her racing heart a little. Once the cheering settles down, Mrs King carries on.

"Okay. So here's what's going to happen. You'll both be given the same word or phrase to craft your song around. It need not be included in the lyrics but it should have the feeling of the word or phrase. You'll both be given an hour and a half to craft your songs where after time is up, you'll be asked to perform the song. You may only play one instrument when you perform your song. You'll be allowed 2 minutes before you perform your song, to explain it a little. After each of you have performed, the judges and I will take a few minutes to deliberate the winner. I won't disclose to you who they are yet, but let's just say you don't want to miss this opportunity. Last but not least, the winner today will be excused from Music Theory homework for the rest of the school year and I hear there's also something to settle between the two of you." Mrs King ends her spiel with a clap of her hands.
