Chapter Six: "Try to keep your fangirling to a minimum for the sake of my sanity."
For once, Rachel and Dot agreed it would be best for the group to split to cover more of the beach as they continued searching for resources. Nora and the remaining Texan took off along the sand, their voices fading away into the distance whereas Leah and Jeanette went in the other direction, the latter chattering like an excited puppy the whole time. Sophie could just imagine the scowl on Leah's face as she feigned interest and momentarily felt bad for not offering to go with them.
She expected she'd be partnered with Rachel but from the death-glare the athlete shot her when she walked over, she was quick to realize the teen would much rather be alone. It was because of this that Sophie started the walk through the grasses accompanied only by the thoughts she was just getting around to processing, the extent of the situation finally breaking the surface after hours of consistent denial.
They were stranded somewhere, perhaps miles from civilization with only a few salvageable materials and each-other to survive. If Dot couldn't get her phone working, if Shelby and Toni couldn't find any water or if anyone got badly injured or sick, they were screwed. The more she thought about it, the more she panicked, a sensation she'd felt just a few hours ago when the plane went down...

The icebreakers were over a few minutes after they began. She didn't think much of the first trembles, assuming they were down to turbulence and didn't even look up from her phone. Reaching for the slice of cake a good looking young flight attendant had set down just minutes earlier, she watched with hidden interest as Shelby breezed past her to the toilet with a manicured hand covering her mouth.
It had been a long time since she was allowed to eat such a treat, having been pressured by her mother and agent alike to maintain her athletic physique even after shooting 'Alone' in-case she were to book another role but this retreat meant she finally had the freedom to indulge herself for two beautiful weeks. Besides, what they didn't know wouldn't hurt them; they were going to be hundreds of miles away.
She'd barely swallowed her mouthful when suddenly the lights flickered and the plane lurched to the side. Her glass of water fell to the floor and smashed, soaking her bag and by the time she straightened after moving her belongings out of the way, the juddering was increasing both in intensity and frequency. From the panicked expressions of the other girls to the way the staff members started running in the direction of the pilot's cabin, it didn't take a genius to realize that something was very very wrong.
"If you could all remain in your seats. We are... plane malfunction... Stay... seats." The intercom clicked on for a few moments, the man's voice gradually lost to static as only every other word was heard but Sophie could hear the fear in his tone as clear as day. The creaking rattled her to the core, the seatbelt digging uncomfortably in her ribs as she was thrown from side to side and she felt a lump rise in her throat as the severity of her situation hit her like a harsh slap to the face. This was it.
The numbness encapsulating her brain suddenly melted away and was replaced by what she could only describe as pure panic. Adrenaline flowed through her veins but she was frozen in her seat, unable to move a single muscle. Everyone adopted a different approach when realizing they were living their final moments; the girl next to her glued her gaze onto the book infront of her whilst reading ferociously, Shelby had emerged from the bathroom and dropped to her knees in frantic prayer and Toni seemed to not give a damn about the pilot's advice or her own safety, bolting down the aisle into Martha's awaiting arms and holding her tightly.
