Chapter Two: The Plane

"The other girls will be arriving in a few minutes, Miss Ryder. We wanted to allow you some time to get used to the plane. I apologize- it's probably nowhere near as luxurious as you're used to..."

Sophie's eyes took in the interior of the private jet, the excitement within them hidden by a pair of large, black sunglasses worn to disguise her identity at the airport. They didn't work. She was recognized as soon as she stepped foot out the taxi and had to be ushered through security with her oversized, gray hoodie pulled tight to cover her face and hide the teen from the harsh cameras following her every move. She'd originally planned to browse the shops for a while, maybe pick out a couple of gifts for Matt and Ellie whom she'd said goodbye to earlier, but knew that was out the question as soon as the familiar cries of 'Oh my God! It's Sophie Ryder!' sounded.

Instead, she was taken directly to the private jet set to transport her to Hawaii in the next half an hour. Her escape. She'd ignored the excited whispers from some of the crew as she passed them, fighting the urge to roll her eyes as they nudged one another and spoke in hushed tones that they were within five feet of the Sophie Ryder. Come on, she had ears. They could at least try and be subtle about it.

"Miss Ryder?" Her attention snapped back to the attendant, noting him looking at her expectantly, "Where would you like to sit?"

"Here's fine, thanks." She gestured to the cream seat at the very rear of the plane, a good distance away from the others. She needed some time to herself to calm down after the unexpected rush at the airport and hoped that, when the rest of the girls arrived, she'd wouldn't draw any attention and could finally be alone with her thoughts.

"Would you like any refreshments?"

"Uh, just a glass of water, thanks." The steward looked surprised at her choice for a moment, almost as if he were expecting her to demand a bottle of their most expensive champagne right there on the spot, but simply nodded and left.

Sophie leaned back in her seat, noticing with a light chuckle it reclined, and took her earphones out her pocket. Her phone was already pinging with notifications left right and center, ranging from celebrities commenting on her recent interview to her manager wishing her luck on the retreat but she ignored them all. A sudden, undeniable temptation swept through her as she clicked on the msn app, her finger hovering unsurely over Jaden's contact for about a minute. Did she really want to see the messages again? Could she take it?

"Only one way to find out..." She muttered to herself, tapping on it with a sigh. She needed closure before she took this break. She'd emerge out the other side a changed woman but that wouldn't be possible until she could face what happened.

JADEN
Hey, Soph?
Why aren't you picking up?
I've been calling you like crazy all day.
Are you okay?

ME
Of course I'm not okay.

JADEN
Babe, what's wrong?

ME
Like you don't know.

JADEN
I really don't.
Tell me- I want to help.

ME
Two words.
Lisa Wharf.

JADEN
Shit...

ME
Yeah, Ellie told me she caught you.
I didn't believe her at first, but then things started to make sense.
