Vivienne's POV:
"Get out of your bed!! You're gonna be late for school, the bus comes in 20 minutes!"I hear my mom shout from downstairs. Putting on my glasses, I grab my phone to look at the time. It's seven o'clock. Not again.
I roll out of my bed and a groan escapes my lips as my knees hit the ground. I half-walk half-crawl to the bathroom to brush my teeth and take a quick shower. This is usually how my mornings go... I wake up to my mom shouting on top of her lungs because I can never be woken up by alarms— Is that just me or are alarm sounds never loud enough to wake a human up? If I was the head of the Alarm Sounds Department of a smartphone company, I would give options like the sound of a drill, cars honking continuously AND a customisable mom-shouting-in-the-morning sound.
I step out of the shower with a towel wrapped around my body and glance at the wall clock. Ten minutes past seven. I rush towards my closet and quickly pick out an outfit. Then I stuff my books in my bag and rush down the stairs. I toss my book bag onto the couch and walk towards the kitchen, without missing to look at my reflection in the living room mirror. And thank the Lord I did so because I completely forgot to do my hair, which looked like a bird's nest on top of my head. I run to my room as my mother shouts a "What did you forget now?" behind me. I do my hair and run back downstairs.
"Vivienne, you're 17, almost 18, you NEED to become more responsible!", says my mom.
"Yeah yeah. I get it."
"Do you though? Anyways, take this and run out the door right this second. I don't want to drive you to school again because you end up missing the school for the 3rd time in a week.", she says as she hands me my packed lunch.
"You know you won't have to do that if you just get me a car."
My mom looks at me like I grew antlers on my head. "You think I can trust you with a CAR?!"
I scrunch up my nose in response as I say, "Honestly, I don't think you can. Okay I gotta go now. Bye mom."
"Bye Viv! Have fun at school and make sure to bring all your binders back!"
And that reminder was very much necessary.
I am Vivienne Green. A 17 year old girl who is about to become an adult without a single ounce of maturity. I personally think she won't be able to survive in this cruel, gruesome world on her own. I am 5'5 and a brunette. Thankfully I was gifted with straight hair because there is no way in hell I would have been able to tame the curly beasts. I am also very forgetful (if you didn't know that by now) and clumsy. I like to read cheesy romance novels online and daydream about the characters in my free time. I also consider myself a decent singer but never scrounged up enough courage to sing in front of an actual audience. Hmm.. what else is left? I think that's about it.
The bus arrives and I make my way to the very back where a window seat is always left vacant for me. I love myself a window seat. One time a guy sat in my seat and I kid you not, I literally grabbed his feet and dragged him out of that seat. Ever since, no one has ever tried to sit in my seat.
...
I am pretty proud of myself for doing that.
We reach school and before I even get off the bus, my eyes scan the grounds for a short, blonde girl— which, if I must say, was next to impossible as the girl is 5'3 and that is not short but very short in my opinion.
What? I know I am just 2 inches taller than her but that makes a lot of difference.
I step off the bus and look around for her when suddenly someone taps me on my shoulder. I look back to see none other than the freak I call my best friend.
"Sam! Oh how I missed my little, tiny dwarf"
"Hey! I am only-"
"two inches shorter? Yeah yeah"
This is Samantha Taylor, aka my best friend. She came to this school in third grade when her father got transferred to the States and we have been inseparable since then. And when I say we are polar opposites, I am not joking. I am a nerd who wears big round glasses and she is one of our school's best cheerleaders. I have the looks of a 13 year old and she is the prettiest girl in our school, at least that's what the other kids say and I can't do anything but agree. She has got this LONG line of guys waiting to date her and I...
well...
I have never dated anyone in the 17 years of my existence. In short, she is everything I'm not. But that never came between us. We have always had each other's back, no matter what the situation might be."Did you complete the biology assignment that was due today?" Sam asks me with her eyes gleaming with hope. I am oh-so-familiar with this look.
"The one which was given a week ago? Yes, I have."
"Oh that's lovely! Can I-"
"Copy mine? Sure you can, BUT this is gonna be the last time I am letting you do this. You NEED to start completing your own assignments!!"
"I know! I really tried this time! But it's so hard, all the terms and weird nomenclatures!"
I laughed seeing her on the verge of pulling her hair out as we head to our first class. Sam and I have almost all the classes together, except 3rd and 5th period which are, for me, Chemistry and English.
As we enter our Math class, I hear Sam mutter "Why do we gotta start with math?". Even though I didn't mind it, I couldn't agree with her more. Math requires much more braincells than an average person has at eight in the morning.
As we sit in our seats, I couldn't help but a notice a quiet kid sitting in the corner at the very back. I turn to Sam to ask her if she knows about a new student because she always knows all the gossip.
"Oh yes! I did hear about a guy who was gonna come today. I heard he got expelled from his previous school for a 'prank' he did. Wonder what that could have been?"
"Yeah.. What could that've been?", I say as my gaze lingers at the mysterious boy sitting alone at the back. But I think he felt me staring at him, because he looked up in my direction and his calm, neutral face morphed into one full of disgust. He motions for me to turn back around and I oblige. Do not want to die today, thank you very much.
Well, that's definitely normal.
Something tells me this will not be our last encounter.
