Vic's POV~~

I hold my books close to my chest as I keep my head low, depending on everyone else to not bump into me. I mentally ask myself questions and quiz myself for the test in Science this period. I walk in and, as always, I'm the first one there. "Hello Mr. Fuentes." Mr. Hall smiles. I just nod and weakly smile at him. I take my seat in the back of the classroom, looking through my notebook of Science notes for only thirty seconds before everyone piles in all at once. Once the bell rings, Mr. Hall gets everyone's attention, "Today, we will be changing seats!" the room goes crazy. Everyone starts shouting, "Put me next to..." "Put me in the front!" "Put me in the back!" "No! Can I stay here?" I just roll my eyes and look back down at my notebook. Mr. Hall yells some words, then next thing I know I hear "Mr. Fuentes!" I look up and everyone has their eyes on me, "Um," I swallow hard, "Y-yes sir..?"

"Your new seat is here." he says, pointing at the seat closest to the door. I swallow hard again and gather my stuff, feeling the heavy weight of everyone's eyes on me as I walk. Don't trip, don't trip, don't trip, why the fuck did that bastard move me, don't trip, don't trip... I mentally note the whole way there. I sit in my new seat and literally hold my breath until everyone turns their attention to the next student Mr. Hall called out, "Tony Perry!" Tony smiles brightly and trots over and plops down in the seat next to me. "Hi," he flashes his bright, 100-dollar smile at me, "I'm Tony."

"Vic." I say gently. I look over at him but avoid eye contact as we shake hands. "YOOOO!" I hear someone yell. I cringe at how loud and annoying they were being. "Jaime!" Tony chuckles. He stands up and does the weird thing some guys do where they stretch opposite arms out then grab each others hands and pull each other close and slap each others back, still holding opposite hands. I find the whole ordeal extremely awkward and the one time I did it, my back got bruised. "Oh, no no no. What was I thinking?" My Hall says. All three of us look at him, wondering what he meant. "Vic, switch seats with Tony." he says. I sigh and pick up my things. The far-too-loud-and-friendly-for-comfort-guy-with-weird-hair rolls his eyes as I sit in Tony's old spot. Me Tony and... that guy, sit down at the same time. "Jaime," he says, stretching his hand out towards me, "Not Jay-Me, not Hay-Me, Hi-Me." I shake his hand, "Vic." I say quietly. "Although, he also goes by Ha-Meh." Tony chirps in. "Trueee!!" Jaime nods. "So, what do you do?" Tony asks.

"Excuse me?" I smirk. I smile for a moment, but then I remember what I saw this morning in the mirror. So fuckin' ugly. I tell myself and my smile dissolves immediately. "Whoa, what was that?" Jaime chuckles. "What?" I ask, avoiding eye contact. "Why'd you stop smiling? Smiling is a good workout for yo face muscles breh!" he explains.

"Oh..."

"Anyways," Tony coughs, "What do you do?"

"What do you mean?"

"Well, I play guitar, Jaime here plays the bass... what do you do? What's your... talent..?"

"Talent?" I croak, "I don't have a 'talent' I-"

"Oh, bullshit!" Jaime yells.

"Mr. Preciado," Mr. Hall calls out.

"Sorry," Jaime mocks, "Anyway, everyone has at least one talent... what's yours?"

"I guess I can play the guitar..?"

"Seriously?" Tony's eyes light up.

"No way! Dude you have to come to my place after school so we can check you out!" Jaime grins.

"Oh, Uh- not sure about that dude, I actually-"

"Come on man, we just wanna hear you play." Tony shrugs.

"My little brother-"

"What grade is he in?" Jaime interrupts. I roll my eyes, sick of being interrupted and say, "Tenth."

"He can come too. We'll provide snacks and everything, please just come dude." Jaime begs.

"Fine." I sigh, unsure of how my parents and brother will feel about this.

"Alright man, here ya go." Jaime says, handing me a green slime guitar. "This is hella rad." I say, admiring the guitar, "Yeah, I hate it. You can have it." he shrugs. "Seriously!?"

"Yeah, now plaaayyyyy... Creep by Radiohead." Jaime smirks, looking over at the signed album cover hanging on the wall. I take and deep breath and gently strum the guitar so I can get a feel for the strings and how it's tuned, then I begin to play the chorus. "But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo- What the hell am I doing here? I don't belong here." I sing along. When I finish, I hesitantly look up to see Tony grinning at me with his hands in his back pocket and Jaime looking at me as if I'd just choked his madre or something. "You sing too?!" he squeaks. "I sing too?" I ask, unaware that I could even sing. Well, I knew I could sing, I just didn't think I was good at all. "You guys have a drum set?" Mike asks, obviously bored. "Yeah, why, you play?" Jaime asks, nodding towards the drum set. "Just a little." Mike shrugs. Mike sits on the stool behind the drum set and grabs the drum sticks. He counts himself three beats before drumming out the chorus of Creep. He sounds so much better than I remember. By the time he's done, we all give him a round of applause. "How'd you guys learn?" Tony asks. "We used to stay with our Aunt a lot and our cousins were in a band so we'd just mess around with their stuff."

"What if we started a band..?" Tony laughed. We all laughed for a few seconds, then Jaime gets a look on his face, "Wh-what if we did start a band?"

"You can't be serious." Mike chuckles.

"Vic can sing and play guitar, Tony plays guitar, I play bass, you can drum. I say we go for it." he explains.

"What would we name our band? Uh, Penetrate The Bride?" Mike jokes. We all laugh, then I start thinking for a second, if we were to really start a band, what would we want to be called? Not Penetrate The Bride, that's for sure...

Then it clicks, "How about Pierce The Veil?"
