"Lucifer!" Henry whispered to me in the middle of the night. Everyone else was asleep to prepare for the long travel ahead of us. For whatever reason Henry thought now was the best time.
"What?!" I whispered sharply back and sat up from my sleeping bag.
Henry crouched next to me and looked around to be sure no one else was listening. "I think we're beginning to create a hierarchy here." He told me this as if I hadn't taken note. William and Avon both were natural leaders and them making decisions just seemed normal.
"Yeah, and?" I asked frustrated from being woken up.
Henry sighed. "We are a small group and I know we can't afford to loose anyone. Avon flat out voted to lead me to my death and move on when I was still sick."
"Avon just thinks a little more strategic. Don't take it personally." I laid back down in my sleeping bag, hoping Henry was going to get the hint I wanted him to shut up.
"We are all going to have to make a choose of who leads. Either William or Avon and I need to know who you're going to back if it comes down to something big. The rest of the group talks but you don't. We need you to though." Henry pulled my shoulder so I was on my back.
I scowled at him but I took a deep breath before I could loose my temper. "I will support anyone who leads..." I pushed Henry off his balance and covered up in my sleeping bag.
I heard him shuffle up to his feet and sigh. "Lucifer, I hope you can find your place in this new world because it's not leading and it certainly isn't with the rest of us..." With that Henry walked away as I feel asleep.
The next morning everyone was already packing up when I woke up. I crawled out of my sleeping bag and packed it up in my backpack.
"Good morning Malcolm." I waved to Malcolm who was putting out the fire.
He looked at me and shook his head. "Morning."
Slightly offended I tried to put that bit of annoyance behind me and continued to pick up things before walking to William who was talking to a girl with red hair in the group I haven't met yet.
"Yeah, we will head a little west and hopefully find a river or lake. Something... " William explained to her as I got there. "Hey Lucifer." He nodded to me.
"Hey. So when are we headed out?" I asked and looked at the girl.
"Well it looks like everyone is nearly packed up so we head out as soon as everyone isn't doing anything." William darted looks between the girl and me. "Umm... Have you not met each other yet?"
"No... We haven't." She laughed awkwardly. "I'm Hera. Sorry we haven't talked or anything. William always seems to tell me I need to gather and I'm just like 'Do we really need so much of this leaf?' And he's all like 'You know we don't have water so keep picking up those leaves that taste like shit if you eat too many!'. Blah blah blah."
William looked at her and sighed. "Anyways, yes this is Hera. I send her gathering because she is amazing at it and she makes fun of me."
"What else are couples supposed to do out of the sky ship?" She playfully hit William's arm.
"Its nice to meet you, Hera. I'm Lucifer." I extended my hand to her.
She slapped it playfully. I was visibly a little shocked. "Sorry. How often do you get the oppertunity to slap Lucifer?" She let out a laugh.
I sighed along with William.
"She doesn't mean to offend. She just treats everything like a joke." He patted my shoulder.
"Its fine. My dad is kind of like that. I feel like that's part of why he named me Lucifer." I laughed at my bad attempt of a joke.
"Anyhow..." William interrupted the awkwardness. "Looks like everyone is finished picking up so if you're ready we can get going. Tell Avon that everyone is ready." He told me before picking up a few of his things before I moved away towards where the fire was.
"Avon." He was looking around to be sure everything was alright.
"Yes?" He asked when Illia grabbed onto his arm.
"William says that we're ready to head out now." I told him.
"Alright." Avon looked around at everyone. "Time for everyone to head out. We need to find a water supply by sundown and make camp. So everyone follow William." Everyone shuffled around and began to follow William as he went forward.
