And then it hits him, like a speeding bullet train.
Jonghyuk always looked grumpy and irritated when they hung out but..but if anything happened to Dokja then,
The he'd be the first to notice.
And the first to care.
It hits Dokja, that he's not the only one who suffered.
He's had someone with him this entire time.
And he never noticed.
And now they're all grown up, but at least it wasn't too late. If he'd shown up even a second later then...
The he'd be drawing his last breath.

Without Dokja realising, tears start to pool in his eyes and drip down.
The corners of his lips lift up shakily and he looks down.
"Yoo Jonghyuk."
And he looks back up to face him, who's face is scrunched up in concern, and smiles, for the first time in what felt like forever.
"Im sorry."
"Kim Dok-"
"And thank you. For everything."
And Jonghyuk's eyes widen, both at his remarks and the scene he's witnessing.
Dokja's soft face ridden with tears but a real, genuine smile on his face, one where there's pure joy in his eyes and they crinkle.
One that makes Jonghyuk's heart skip a beat.
And Jonghyuk, in the spur of the moment, does something he would probably never regret.
Not like he was lying.
"Kim Dokja. I love you."
And Dokja only shows a fraction of surprise before he starts giggling, full on laughing, before saying,
"Me too, idiot. Me too."
And all Jonghyuk can do is stare in sheer happiness as Dokja crashes his lips onto his own.
F*cking finally, you rat.
Took you long enough.
There's a ghost of a smile on Jonghyuk's lips.
No, scratch that, he is smiling.
He's finally reached his happiness.
