TO SURVIVE
DEADLY LIFE
When I opened my eyes, I found myself staring at a huge ceiling. It was a ceiling I remembered seeing before. And when I sat up, I saw someone looking at me. Again, it was someone I'd seen before. I stayed quiet.
"Ah!" Aoi said. "You're awake! Finally! Are you okay?"
"Now's no time for sleeping," Mondo said, looking angry. "Get your ass up."
"Huh...?" I said. I was confused. What...what had happened?
"You were unconscious, dude," Hiro said, rubbing his head. "I had to carry you back here."
"It's no surprise, considering what happened," Sakura said.
"What...happened?" I said. Those words slipped from my mouth before I even realized it. And then, an image that I was sure wasn't true appeared in front of my eyes.

"Gh-! Grraaah!"
I didn't even mean to scream outloud. It just...happened.
"H-Hey, are you okay?!" Aoi asked, looking concerned.
"So it wasn't a dream? What I saw...It was real...?"
I gasped after Byakuya said that. A deep, dark despair worked its way through my body, and then exploded out of me. I shot up and took off running.
"Hey, where do you think you're going?" Byakuya said, stopping me in my tracks.
"I have to see for myself!" I shouted, turning to face the stupid Affluent Progeny. "I have to see if Sayaka is-! If Sayaka is...!"
"You can check once, twice, a thousand times," he snapped back. "Sayaka is completely and irrevocably dead."
"No!" I shouted, this time covering my ears. "I have to see for myself!"
"Listen to us, man!" Mondo shouted, which made me keep my ears covered. "Whaddya think's gonna happen if you got out there?"
"Well what good is it gonna do just sitting around here?! I mean, why are we all hanging out in the gym at a time like this?! Our friend...Sayaka...she's...She's dead!"
Dead...When I said that, it finally hit me.
