A loud knock startled the frail man out of his thoughts. He blinked a couple of times before his gaze shifted to the same door that opened to reveal his excited eleven year-old son.

He smiled widely as he made it to his side of the bed.

"How are you feeling today?", the boy whispered quietly, for a moment he could see the worry in his eyes.

"I feel so much better baby, you going to school?", it was easier to lie to him than tell him that he felt like a he was losing a bit of himself everyday.

"Yup, today I have a presentation and I really worked hard for it, Ms. Shin said the best gets a prize"

"You're definitely going to get it, I just know i-"

"Ki, let's go! We'll be late", Jay heard his husband yell from wherever he was. Soon heavy footsteps approached and Heeseung stood tall by the door.

"Okay Appa, I'm coming", he said. He gave his dad a big smile.

"Bye daddy", he gave him a big hug, and a kiss on his cheek, Jay could tell he was trying to be gentle, "I love you"

"I love you too, now go, don't wanna be late", Riki gave a little wave before he ran out. Jay looked up at his husband, who said nothing. He just stared at him blankly before he closed the door.

He was left in pitiful silence. It had been like that for the past month, eversince..

He couldn't help it, he felt so bad. It was his fault, no wonder why Heeseung couldn't look at him the same. No wonder why he talked to him less, only uttering a word when it was truly necessary.

I deserve this, he told himself.

He brought his weak limb to his face and tried to wipe his cheek.

Another knock was heard and the door opened to reveal one of his housekeepers.

"Good morning sir", she said as she pushed a trolley inside, on it was a tray of food. She quietly rolled beside him.

"I'm not feeling very hungry today"

"You have to eat sir"

"I know, I'll do it later, right now I don't feel well enough to eat"

"You still have to take something so you can take your pills"

"Just give them to me like that"

"You'll throw up, if you do that sir"

"Just give them to me", his voice was a little more firm. She complied and he swallowed them in one go. It hurt. He refused to take water so she started to push the trolley out.

"I'm going to work today"

"But sir, the doctor sai-"

"I don't feel like I'm getting better", he murmured. His boney hand clutched onto his stomach. He felt empty, "I just need something to distract me"

Conflict was clear in her eyes, she wanted to force him to stay but she knew he was stubborn so she sighed.

"At least eat first"
