Okay, so we go back two days before my tenth birthday.
I know, child, ew.
Anyways, I was skiing like normal, because my birthday is in January and there is a lot of snow around that time.
I see this ditch in the hill where I've seen so many people cross, so I think, hey, what's the worse that could happen?
I go to cross, but I didn't even get 20 feet close to it.
Because of the powder snow in front of it. My skis went down in the powder, got jammed in ice, and sent me flying. My skis detached and went off to who knows where, and I went landing into a crumpled heap. My head had bent back on impact and basically touched my waist, and I just sprawled out, unable to move at all.
My friend was skiing with me, and she saw the whole thing. She panicked and came over to me, freaking out. She wasn't very good in those types of situations.
I had to yell at her for her to stop ranting and freaking out, then I had to convince her to leave me and go to ski patrol at the bottom of the hill for help, because I genuinely could not move.
She left after a few minutes, going as fast as her inexperienced self would allow.
After a few minutes of lying there, this other kid in my class saw me and came over, recognizing me. He asked if I was okay (even though we kinda hated each other) and I told him how my other friend (who was also in our class) had gone to get ski patrol or my mother. He said he would go and see if my friend had gotten help, and then he also left.
Another few minutes later, this ski patrol group shows up with a sled and a neck brace. Apparently they had seen the whole thing, and had been training. They had gone back up to get a sled and that's why it had taken them so long.
They put the neck brace on me, and it was very uncomfortable. I didn't really know that though, I couldn't feel anything from the neck down. They moved me onto the sled, and the one guy put his ski goggles on me so I didn't get too much snow in my face.
Then they skied down the hill with me. I got a ton of snow in my face, despite the goggles, and it felt like it took a very long time.
When we got to the bottom, we went into the medical building and I got put on the bed thing in there. They started asking me questions about coins and time and money to make sure I was right in the head, and I had to keep the neck brace on. They made my move my fingers and toes to know if I was paralyzed or not, which I wasn't. It was very hard to move though.
A few minutes after that, my mom shows up, all panicky like she is. She starts asking questions and saying I should've been more careful and starts calling people.
I had to go to the hospital, and I got to be in a wheelchair when we got there, because I could kinda walk, but just in case I had broken anything (like my spine) they didn't want me damaging it more.
It was kinda cool I suppose, for being in a situation like that.
The hospital was pretty full, so I got a hallway bed. It was almost 10:30pm at this point, and my child self was very tired. I had almost fallen asleep, but then some bitch woke me up.
This guy who was probably sixteen or seventeen comes in with a doctor, and he's yelling and arguing and swearing, complaining about how he shouldn't be in a childrens hospital, and something about getting shot.
I started crying a bit, just tired and in pain (because of the stupid ass neck brace)
We were still waiting for x-ray results, and I was just there with my parents at this point. My friend's mom had to come and pick her up from the ski place, so she was all good. I'm not sure what the guy in my class did, because I didn't see him until the next day in school or something. I think it might have been Monday I saw him, because we had a snowday the day after I almost died.
After a bit, we got results that nothing was broken (somehow) and they took the neck brace off. FINALLY.
I got to go home after a bit, and by the time we got there is was like 2am.
I immediately went to bed, and waited to die another day.
