The Dark Side of Beauty

Chapter 2//Falling

I look up, hearing screaming coming from the sky. I saw a person falling, and they were falling fast, right down towards the lake. I stare in horror, patting Luke's arm next to me. "Luke!" I yell, turning to him, seeing him polishing his sword.

"Luke!" I yell again, grabbing his head and turning it towards where the person was still falling. Luke turns his eyes away from the sword, and I see his face drop.

He drops his sword, and starts running, with me right behind him. I see the person splash in the lake, then bob back up, flailing around. I hear an angry yell, and see the person look up, and yell, "GODDAMMIT! WHY DO I ALWAYS LAND IN A LAKE?!"

I laugh a little, before stopping at the edge of the lake. I push a canoe out, with Luke grabbing two oars. I get the canoe into the water, and jump in, Luke right behind me, handing me an oar.

We paddle over to the person, who looks at us. "I'm not getting in if that's what you want. I'd most likely tip over the canoe." the girl says, but tosses her bag in. "I can swim to the shore where you can question me there, because that's what happens every time."

I furrow my eyebrows, confused. "You didn't get my email?" she asks, one of her hands hanging onto the canoe.

"Get in, or the naiads might drag you under." Luke says, and I shoot him a glare while the girl climbs in, almost tipping over the canoe.

"Should've left the picture at home." the girl grumbles as Luke and I start paddling the canoe back to shore.

As soon as the canoe runs aground, the girl gets out, and lays on the ground. "I hate water." I look at the girl, confused.

The girl sits up, and grabs her pack from the canoe, taking everything out and wringing the water out.

"Okay, this is a long story, so you might want to sit down." the girl says, looking up at us.

I look at Luke, who shrugs and sits on the ground. I follow suit, and wait for the girl to start talking.
