Chapter 28

BRONX, NY📍

"Hey" Diamond waved at Ty as she walked into the apartment. "Where's Xavier?" she asked, slipping off her shoes.

"He went out he should be back any minute." Ty answered jumping back onto the couch unpausing the movie he was currently watching.

"Oouuu you watching Love and Basketball?" Diamond said with her tone slightly raised. "Mind if I join?" she raised an eyebrow.

"No problem" Ty gestured to the empty spot beside him on the couch.

Diamond took a seat on the couch crossing her leg over the other. "I member this movie like the back of my hand" she said under her breath.

"Oh really?" Ty narrowed his eyes at her. "You better not spoil it I hate people like that"

"Ok" Diamond spoke, pretending to zip her mouth.

A few minutes went by and Ty couldn't help but aske the question he's always wanted now that he found out his cousin was a father.

"Are you sure Xavier is the father of your baby?"

"Excuse me" Diamond instantly turned her head mugging him.

"I mean Xavier's my dawg and he's throwing his life away for you and your son so I'm just checking-"

"What are you trying to say. If I took a DNA test or if Xavier made the right choice?" Diamond scoffed folding her arms across her chest and sized him up.

"Take it however you want" Ty held his hands up in defense.

"And how is this any of your business?" she squinted her eyes.

The handle to the front door rocked side to side before it opened revealing Xavier with stacked styrofoam boxes in his hands.

"Oh hey Diamond didn't know you were coming ove" he said as she the door behind him with his foot.

"Yeah I wanted to help with Alex's room but I guess you have enough company already" Diamond mugged Ty before she stood up from the couch grabbing her stuff.

"Where ya going I thought you came over to help" he scrunched up his face.

"Yeah I changed my mind" Diamond spoke before walking out the front door.

Xavier went to into the kitchen to put the food out before he came back and gave Ty a look.

"Whatchu did to her" he side eyed him.

"All I did was ask her a question and she took it outta hand" Ty held up his hands in defense.

Xavier kissed his teeth before chasing after her.

"Diamond whatsup witchu?" he called after her.

Her back was faced towards him as her attention was set on the elevator in front of her.

"Don't pay Ty any mind he doesn't know what he's saying."

"If it were down to football or your family which would you choose?" Diamond turned around.

"Where's this coming from?" Xavier scrunched up his face. "Did Ty put this onto your mind-"

"So what if he did Xavier I think he's right. You wouldn't just throw away a sport that you've done for years."

"So were back to this huh I thought we put everything in the past" Xavier brushed a hand over his face clenching his jaw.

Diamond ignored him and turned back around.

"Why do you let people's words affect you. Ty doesn't know the whole story therefore he's gonna ask questions and he's gonna want to assume things."

"What happened to that clean slate we both agreed on?" he gritted out.

The elevator opened and Diamond was about to step in when Xavier reached out and dragged her arm back towards him.

"You don't get to walk away this time" he looked down straight into her eyes.

Diamond knew what he was saying was true which is why she looked away not wanting to make eye contact with him.

"I will always love you Diamond and Alex will forever be in my heart. You guys are my family."

"Bullshit" she dry laughed shaking her head.

Xavier heavily sighed throwing his head back. "You're a fucking pain in the ass y'know that"

Diamond shrugged her shoulders.

"Cmon" he put an arm around her neck spinning around to walk back to his apartment.

Diamond realized he was right because she was letting outside interferences get to her head.

She had developed a habit of thinking ahead into the future letting it interfere with the present moment.

"Ok I'm sorry you're right" Diamond apologized.

"I'm always right" Xavier grinned giving her a smug look causing her to roll her eyes in response.

"So what are you planning on doing to Alex's room?" Diamond questioned as she stared around the empty room.

"Well I was gonna start with repainting the walls first. You told me his favourite colour was red right?" Xavier paused looking at her for confirmation.

"Mhm" Diamond nodded her head.

"Yeah then I wanna see if I could get him a lightning mcqueen bed. Prolly buy him his own xbox or ps4 so he can play on his own tv in here."

"Wow you really going all out" Diamond chuckled.

"Well no shit he's my son so he gets to be spoiled" Xavier side eyed her. "Then I want to set up his own shoe collection for his Nike Jordans that have already been shipped and on its way here also buy him a few tracksuits to match." he went on.

Looks like you already have a vision of whatchu want." Diamond smiled, giving him a proud look.

"Yeah this cool with you?" he raised an eyebrow at her.

"Yeah nope not a problem" Diamond held up her hands. "I'ma let you do you"

"His fourth birthday's coming up in March maybe you cam surprise him with the final furnished room." she offered.

"Oh fr what date?"

"March 5th" she responded.

"Yeah if I work on this everyday I'll prolly get it done before then with your help of course baby mama"

"Just to be clear I'm only helping with the toom accessories. I can't risk moving furniture and break my $120 nails."

She flexed her hand to show him her XL nails.

"Don't worry I'll pay for your new ones. You gon help me repaint the walls right now." Xavier said.

"I can't these are my good jeans" she pointed at dark blue ripped fashanova.

"You can borrow a pair of my shorts from my room. You ain't getting outta this." he smirked at her.

"Ok fine" Diamond pouted before walking out the room to change and come right back and as soon as she walks in Xavier's eyes ran over her whole entire body.

"What?" she gave him a weird look. "You didn't mind if I borrowed a hoodie also?"

"Nothing" he cleared his throat looking away. He couldn't help but do a double take because seeing her in his clothes was hella sexy.

"Ok you can start with taping up the light switches while I start prepping the paint." Xavier ordered.

"Ok" Diamond responded

"Yeah we'll paint the walls today. Let it dry overnight and continue tomorrow morning."

"Ok sounds cool boss" Diamond saluted him before proceeded to do what she was told which caused Xavier to chuckle shaking his head
