It wasn't unusual for the - now - fifth year girls to start their first day in a rush. Each year, it happened the same - Narcissa was the first to wake, and she would jolt all the others from sleep with a high-pitched scream. The silky-haired blonde would then run around the dorm room, yanking open the curtains around each bed and shouting her friends' names.
"Phaedra!" The youngest Malfoy groaned at the cool voice of her friend, unusually loud and panicked - it was so different than the one she typically had to strain; She rolled over and used the covers to block her head, muffling the sounds of Narcissa rushing around the room, "Alecto! Penelope!"
The covers were ripped off of Phaedra before she could fully process what was going on, and she shivered, rubbing her biceps with her hands in an attempt to stay warm. She peeked an eye open to see Narcissa standing above her with her hands on her hips, her light brows furrowed to the bridge of her nose, "It's the first day of classes, Phaedra. Wake up."
Phaedra had to admit, her blonde friend had mastered the chiding tone of a mother, and she suddenly felt like a six-year old refusing to go to elementary school. Phaedra groaned again, wiping at her eyes, and she sat up, resting her weight on her forearms. Narcissa made a noise of satisfaction and she moved back to her bed, quickly getting changed.
"Up, Phaedra," Alecto called over her shoulder, not needing to look back to know that the youngest Malfoy was still in bed. Phaedra sneered at the girl's back, but with a pointed look from Narcissa she got out of bed, stretching out her arms and cracking her neck. She quickly changed out of her grey silk pajamas, buttoning up her school uniform and pulling on a pair of pantyhose under her thick black skirt.
In the bathroom, Phaedra doused her hair with Sleekeazy's in an attempt to straighten it. She didn't know why she still hoped every morning that it would have an effect on her hair - if anything, the immense amount of potion she put in it seemed to simply make her hair appear greasy and wavy. It was only out of desperation, and the small hope that perhaps one day it would finally work on her stubborn hair. She hated that she couldn't use a simple spell to straighten her hair; last time she had tried, the spell had gone horribly wrong and she ended up with bushy, frizzy hair.
Alecto snickered when she entered the bathroom, and she pulled on a strand of Phaedra's pale hair, causing the girl's lip to curl in distaste. Alecto stood beside her, examining her appearance in the vanity and she glanced at Phaedra through the mirror, giving her a smug grin, "Do you need help?"
"Yes," Phaedra replied after a moment of hesitation - the only thing she would hate worse than needing a favor from the younger Carrow twin would be her brother writing to their father with the news that Phaedra simply didn't care about her appearance. Alecto's smile widened and she pulled her wand out of her robes, waving it in the air. Phaedra watched in the mirror as her waves straightened, lengthening her hair slightly - she was relieved, too, that the grease had disappeared. She ran her hands through the sleek curtain of hair, sighing slightly.
Alecto batted her eyes innocently, primping her hair in the mirror, "You know, Narcissa always says that 'pleases' and 'thank you's' are the backbone of humanity."
