As I slept that night I had gotten a strange dream. I heard a voice. And all it whispered was 'follow the mist.'
The mist? What mist? And why? I had awoken at twelve at night. Alec was holding onto my waist, and when I moved he pulled me closer and smuggled his head into my neck.
And that's when I saw it. The beautiful sliver mist. It beckoned me to come towards it. But I decided against it. I wasn't going to follow it without Alec. No way. And Alec was still asleep. Plus I wouldn't have been able to get out of his grip.
I sighed, then tried to go back to sleep, but every time I tried a voice inside my head beckoned me to follow the mist.
I elbowed Alec in stomach softly to wake him up, and his immediate reaction was to say, "Who's dead now?"
I chuckled. "No one has died," I replied, "I just can't sleep."
"Why not?" He asked sleepily. He then placed a small kiss on my neck.
"Because of the mist." I replied. Alec sat up.
"What mist?" He asked rubbing his eyes.
"That mist." I replied and pointed towards the glittery, sliver mist.
"I can't see anything," Alec replied, "whoever or whatever it is, it only wants you to be able to see it."
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Does it want you to follow it?" Alec asked.
"Yeah."
"Does it feel like it's going to hurt you?" Alec asked.
"No. I feel safe. I feel like how I did when I was around Blake." I replied.
"Follow it." Alec said.
"I don't want too."
"If you want, I'll come with you."
"Okay," I replied, "but I really don't want to go."
"Katie. It wants you to go. You should listen to things that feel safe."
"Okay.." I replied slowing getting up out of bed.I decided to change my clothes and Alec changed his. I put on a pair of tracksuit pants, along with uggboots. I chucked on a jumper over my pyjama shirt.
Alec followed me, as I followed the mist. I didn't like walking around in the dark, and since the mist went outside I felt uneasy, but Alec told me not to worry. My head told me to listen to him, but my gut said otherwise.
The small and dim streets lights didn't help me to see much, and the cold wind assaulted me through my jumper. This jumper wasn't thick enough. My nose and fingers were going numb, and my legs started to feel weak. My breath was turning into smoke every time I exhaled.
I knew where the mist was taking me, but I couldn't put my finger on it. And that's when I saw the cemetery gates. I froze. I wasn't going back in there. I didn't want to. Not after what happened last time.
Alec came up behind me and whispered, "something wrong?" I jumped a little. His warm breath and his voice had startled me in the silent, cold night.
"E-everything's fine," I replied, "I think we should just leave."
"Katie, you can't avoid the Cemetery forever." Alec replied.
"Yes I can." I replied.
"You can't avoid this. You can't put this off any longer." Alec replied.
"Why not?" I asked.
"I can't tell you that," he replied, "nor can I go any further than those gates."
"Okay.."
Alec gave me a slight push, and I walked forwards descending down to those horrid copper gates. Moss had started to grow on them, and the grass had started to grow over the cement pathway.I shuddered when I thought of the first time I had come here. I really didn't want to follow the mist. I kept walking, and noticed that the mist stopped at a particular gravestone. It was Blake's. I stopped and went to walk away, but I couldn't. I needed to follow the mist. I needed to know.
So I took small, slow steps towards his gravestone, and soon, I was standing there, alone in the darkness. The mist had disappeared.
I shuddered. And there he was. Hovering above the ground once again. I felt a tear drop out of my eye.
You ... You came back !
"Yes Blake. I came back." I replied with a small smile.
I-I need you to free me....
"What do you mean?" I asked with a confused expression.
Can you hold my hand ...? Blake asked as he stretched his arm out towards me. I reached for it, but my hand went straight through his hand.
Touch my heart ...
"Why?!" I asked.
Just do it ... Was my replied. I reached out and touched where his heart was suppose to be, and surprisingly my hand didn't go through. I could feel his heartbeat under my hand. My eyes widened and Blake looked at me happily.
You feel that ...? He asked excitedly.
That's my heart ... I'm coming back ...My heart skipped a beat when he said that. He's coming back? How? And why?
