Epilogue

-Peeta-

She's gone. She's actually gone. She left me.

Hunter and Rye are four now, and our twin daughters are one and a half. How are they going to cope without a mother figure?

I won't be good enough for them.

Haymitch is devastated. She was having a flashback when she left. Just like a click of a finger, she was gone, never to be seen again.

Her mother came back a week after. She found out about our children and wanted to meet her grandchildren.

She wanted to see Katniss too. But she was gone. Her mother was devastated. She hadn't seen Katniss since she came back from the war, that's nearly 5, 6 years ago.

She's been gone nearly 6 months now. I hope she's doing okay.

Gale's married and moved back to Twelve. Somehow, Madge Undersee lived and they re-met in district 8 and hit it off.

Me and Gale have become really good friends. They both help out with the four of the children.

Gale and Madge were upset to find out about Katniss leaving. They were both quite close to her.

The children keep asking where Katniss is. How am I suppose to tell them? They're all too young to know about mine and Katniss' past yet.

I hear a knock on the door and get up to answer it. I see Hunter and Rye opening the door and Finnick and Annie standing there with their son, Finn.

"Hey." I smile.

I walk over and let them in. They follow me to the sitting room where Aster and Melody play on their play mat.

Hunter and Rye follow us in and Rye sits on my lap as Hunter sits next to me. Rye's always been closer to me and Hunter's always been closer to Katniss. He's taken it quite hard not having Katniss around.

Finnick and Annie sit across from me, Finn sitting on Finnick's lap.

-Finnick-

As we sit down across from Peeta and the boys, Annie nudges me giving me a mind question,

Where's Katniss?

I look around and see her nowhere.

"Where's Katniss?" I ask, looking around.

"She's gone away for a bit, right guys?" He says as he squeezes the boys who smile a little and nod.

He's lying though, you can see it in his eyes he's lying to them.

He sends them to play in their room with Finn and the girls are sleeping on their play mat.

He runs his hands though this hair as he looks in front of him, his chin resting on his scrunched up hands. I see tears running slowly down his face.

"She's gone." Is all he manages to get out before he breaks down. "She's gone. She left me."

We quickly go over and sit either side of him as we comfort him.

We hear the door open and slam shut, heavy footsteps making their way to the room.

The door opens and Haymitch and Effie walk in. They sigh when they see Peeta.

"Oh Peeta. Is it Katniss again?" Effie sighs.

He nods.

Me and Annie decide to go out the garden, leaving Peeta stay with Haymitch and Effie for a bit.

Haymitch and Effie sit either side of me, rubbing my back.

"It's okay. She'll be better now. She'll always love you. She left to protect you." Effie coos.

"It's just the kids. How am I going to tell them? They keep asking where she is. I can't tell them about our past yet, it'll be too much for them."

Katniss Everdeen, mother of Hunter Jay Mellark, Rye John Mellark, Aster Primrose Mellark and Melody Rue Mellark,

she didn't run away.

She died because of Tracker Jacker Venom.
