The next week went by pretty slow. The school was a much different place. Some students left and didn't return, but the pure bloods seemed safe. Draco was getting a lot of good attention and so were the other Slytherins. I kept my head down and tried to stay out of sight from most teachers. Snape took over Dumbledors position as headmaster and that helped us out quite a bit. Draco begged me to go be seen by a doctor to check on myself and the baby. I didn't want to go until I knew it was safe, but when would that even be?
Harry and the golden trio left on a mission to do God knows what, stop Voldemort most likely. Everyone was hopeful for their return, but I only looked forward to it if it meant Voldemort would be stopped. We didn't know for sure what they were doing. For all anyone knew they were in hiding and things would never change. Harry didn't seem like the type to give up though. After a few days of begging, I finally gave in to Draco and let him take me to see a doctor. We decided to see a muggle doctor, as a local doctor was too much of a risk right now. They could get it back to Voldemort that I am pregnant and that could end very badly.
The Doctor's office was cold and quiet. There were a few women sitting in the waiting room, but no one looked up from the floor. It seemed sad. They called my name and Draco and I stood up to follow the nurse back as she asked a lot of questions. She brought us to a room, and I sat up on a tall bed that was covered in paper. It was cold and squeaked loudly when I climbed on to it.
"Is this the father?" The nurse asked, looking to Draco.
We both nodded our head in unison, and she let out a laugh.
"You don't have to be so nervous. We're just going to get a look at you and baby to make sure you are both healthy." She spoke calmly before leaving Draco and I alone.
We sat in silence as we waited for the doctor. You could feel the nerves in the air. It was like we were waiting to hear if we were going to die or not. Suddenly the door opened, and a tall man entered. He had dark brown hair and eyes that matched. He wore a long white coat and blue scrubs beneath. He smiled at us as he entered, taking a seat on a chair across from me, next to Draco. He explained about the ultrasound and how he was going to check the size and heartbeat. I told him we had heard the heartbeat already and it was loud. He let out a laugh and said that was good.
He brought out a machine that he pressed against my stomach, then there it was. Our baby, on the screen in front of us. Draco looked at it funny and the doctor had to explain to him what he was seeing. It was small and didn't look much like a baby.
"A bean. It looks like a bean." Draco exclaimed.
I laughed and shook my head. Our little bean. The doctor said the baby looked good but I wasn't that far along, so I needed to be careful as the chance of losing the baby was high right now. I glanced up at Draco and he raised an eyebrow at me. I already knew what he was thinking but he knows that I would never leave his side even in a fight. We left the doctor and made it back to the school in time for lunch. We walked to the great hall together and sat with Zabini and a few others. It was quiet. It seemed like the room was empty and the students that were there seemed too depressed to talk.
"How did it go?" Zabini whispered.
"It's a bean." Draco said, still amazed.
I laughed and shook my head.
"The baby is fine. I am fine." I explained.
Zabini lightly smiled at me, and I returned it.
"Why is it so.... dead?" Draco asked, looking around.
"Umbridge is on a war path today and she is using the Carrow twins to stop anyone who gets in her way. A few students have been sent to the hospital wing and one is in really bad shape." Blaise talked lowly, almost like someone was trying to listen in and he didn't want them to hear.
I looked up at Draco and he had his jaw clenched. He knew bad things would happen, but I think he feels guilty for them.
"It's not your fault." I whispered to Draco.
He looked at me, guilt heavy in his eyes, then he looked away and handed me a roll.
"You need to eat." He said lowly.
I gently took the roll from him and took a bite from it. He began placing food on my plate and we ate in silence. After we finished, we decided we had nothing better to do so we attended class. Unfortunately, it was a class that Alecto Carrow taught. Muggle Studies. We sat at the table in the back, farthest away from Alecto. Students slowly filled the tables one by one until Alecto stormed in and let out a high-pitched squeal.
"Welcome to Muggle Studies. First lesson, Muggles are idiots." She shouted, slamming her hands on her desk, and glaring at all of us. "End of discussion." She laughed and sat on the desk.
I glanced up at Draco and he slouched in his chair. Maybe we should not have come. We sat through the class while Alecto ranted on about how horrible muggles were and how they wanted wizards dead.
"They are no better than animals and it is in their nature to hunt us down." She hissed through her rotten teeth.
I rolled my eyes and let out a huff. This caused her to turn her attention to me.
"Do you have something to say child?" She shouted at me.
Draco perked up, looking at me and slightly shaking his head.
"No." I sighed.
She turned back around to continue writing on the board.
"Just that you are wrong." I muttered.
Draco groaned and dropped his head to the desk. Alecto whipped around and basically sprinted to our table, slamming her hands on it, and leaning towards me.
"What did you say, you little twerp?" She seethed. "Are you not a pure blood? In Slytherin?"
"Yes but- "
"Then you are a blood traitor?" She interrupted me.
"If you want to call it that." I answered, trying to sound confident. "Muggles are not all bad, just like wizards are not all good. They are mixed."
She stared at me for a moment before letting out a wheezy laugh.
"Next you will be telling me that Pure bloods are not the best type of wizard." She shouted.
I rolled my eyes, but she was already walking away. The class was staring at me now and Draco still had his head on the table.
"Who said they were?" I asked as Draco groaned.
"Salizar Slytherin." She huffed.
"Actually no. He only said that People of nonpure blood couldn't be trusted, not that pure bloods were better or muggles deserved to die." I corrected her and Draco perked up once more and shot me a dirty look.
Alecto pulled out her wand and pointed it right at me, causing me to jump in my seat.
"Show me a muggle who could stop me. Then I would be impressed." She growled. "Stand up girl."
I slowly stood up and suddenly regretted my choice to argue with her. I looked over to Draco who was intently watching Alecto. When she slowly walked over to me, he stood up as well behind her, clutching his wand. I stared at her and glanced at her wand, pointed directly at my face. I was getting sick of people shoving their wands at me.
"Ah yes. Stillstone right? I have heard of you. Draco's little bitch." She sang.
I could see Draco behind her, and steam was basically shooting out of his head. His eyes met mine and I motioned with my eyes for him to sit down. He shook his head no and I rolled my eyes.
"Don't roll your eyes at me Stillstone!" Alecto shouted and I turned my attention back to her.
"No, I wasn't- "I stuttered.
"Telling me I am wrong again huh?" She hissed.
I stood there, silent, and frozen. Draco was still standing, staring directly at the back of her head. I was waiting for him to curse her or even beat her over the head with a chair. I closed my eyes and waited for anything to happen. Alecto slowly lowered her wand and walked back to the front of the class. I took a deep breath and sat down, looking at Draco as he was still standing. I reached over and grabbed his arm, pulling him down into his seat. He sat down and glared at me.
"What the fuck was that?" He snapped.
"I just- "
"No, Quinn, you don't know what she is capable of. She will kill you." He seethed.
"I'm fine." I sharply whispered back at him.
I turned my attention back to my textbook and ignored his stares. I wish he would stop treating me like a child. I can take care of myself.
After class I grabbed my things and stood to leave. Draco stood with me, and we both turned to leave. When we reached the hallway, I kept walking while Draco tried to stop to talk to me.
"Quinn." He shouted after me. "Quinn! Get back here!"
"I wish you would stop treating me like I can't do things for myself Draco." I whipped around and yelled at him as I hastily walked back to him.
"I know you can but how can you expect me to sit there and watch you get yourself killed?"
"I was having a discussion with a teacher Draco, I am fine!" I argued.
"No. She is crazy- "
"They all are!" I shouted. "All of them, and I have been hurt by many of them even before I met you, hell I lived with one Draco. I get it and I get you want to protect me but you can't protect me from everyone all the time."
His face went from angry to surprised. I turned back around and stormed off.
"I have study hall. I will see you later." I grumbled.
I left him standing there and continued to the library where study hall was being held. I walked in and a few other students had already arrived, and Snape was sitting at the front of the class. I picked an empty table and sat at it, huffing as I ripped my books and papers out of my bag. I had a paper due in potions and I needed to stop thinking about Draco for a little while to get it done. I began to take notes when I realized how stupid I felt writing an essay for a class that would probably be blown away in the next few weeks. This school was a joke now. I closed my eyes and gripped my quill trying to calm myself down. I focused on my breathing and decided I needed some air. I walked to the front of the class, asked Snape if I could leave and when he nodded, I turned around and almost sprinted out of the door.
When I made it into the hall, I noticed Ginny and Luna Lovegood standing by a pillar, chatting about something. They both stopped talking and turned their attention to me. I smiled at them, but they just continued with talking, like I wasn't even there. I shrugged my shoulders and continued walking to the bathroom. I decided to go to the abandon boy's bathroom instead of the normal girls one. I needed a place to sit in peace while I cleared my mind. I made my way there, passing a few people as I did. When I made it and stepped inside, it was cold and dark. I walked in and over to a window. I sat on the ledge of it and stared out. It was raining outside, and the drops seemed to wash away the darkness. I watched a large water droplet roll down the window very slowly and sighed. After a few moments, I heard a noise. I craned my neck to look back at the door to see if anyone was coming in. I could hear footsteps and I took a sigh of relief when I saw it was Ginny.
"Sorry about earlier. We were talking about Harry." She admitted, apologetically.
"Oh. It's okay. Have you heard anything about him?" I asked, looking back out the window.
She hesitated for a moment before walking over and sitting next to me.
"He is coming back." She whispered.
I looked at her and she had a look of excitement on her face.
"Why?" I queried.
"A few of us are speculating that he knows how to stop- well, you know who."
I sat forward and looked down at the floor, taking in what she just said.
"Is that- is that even possible?" I asked.
"I don't know but it is Harry, Ron and Hermoine, so anything is possible." She exclaimed.
My mind began to race and for a second, I felt the feeling of hope again. I looked down at my stomach and thought of Draco.
"That's wonderful news. It really is Ginny! I have to go though; Snape is expecting me back." I lied.
She nodded, stood up and hugged me. We had never hugged so this was strange, but it was welcomed. I wrapped my arms around her and returned the embrace. I ran out of the bathroom and down the hall. I knew he wouldn't be in class, so I decided to check the tower. I made it to the door when I heard a wheezy laugh behind me.
"Ah, it's the lost bitch. Searching for your Alpha?" Alecto cackled.
I froze in place and my eyes got big. Draco could be up these stairs. I could run to him or call out for him but if I am wrong then I will look foolish, and she will most likely run me down. I slowly turned to look at her and she was smiling at me, gripping her wand. I swallowed hard and just stared at her.
"Actually, yes. I was looking for Draco." I admitted, hoping that not arguing with her would help end this a lot sooner.
"Well, you little git, you should be in class. What would Snape think? Hm. Detention seems deserving and since I found you, you can have detention with me." She smiled.
My heart dropped and I could feel my legs begin to shake. This was not good.
"I was going back to class- "I tried to explain.
"Tsk. Tsk. Now you are lying to a professor. Worthy of detention for sure." She stepped forward and grabbed my shoulder.
She began leading me back to her classroom. When we stepped inside there were a few other students sitting at tables. One of which was Neville Longbottom. I noticed all the students had something wrong. Longbottom had a cut on his cheek, another student had a black eye, and another was asleep on the table. Or fainted. Either way I knew this wasn't good. She shoved me into a seat at a table at the front of the class and sat down in the chair next to me. I was staring down at the table, but I could feel her beady little eyes on me. I slowly looked up at her and she was smiling at me.
"Have you ever heard of an Amortentia potion?" She asked.
"Yes." I stated lowly.
"Know what I smell?"
I shook my head no.
"Blood." She smiled even more. "Ever heard of the spell Sectumsempra?"
I thought back to when Harry and Draco fought in the bathroom. That was the spell he used on Draco. My eyes grew large as I stared at her. She wouldn't dare.
"Your look tells me you have." She sneered, standing up and pulling out her wand. "Stand."
I shook my head no, but she yanked me out of my seat anyway.
"My brother taught me this spell a long time ago, though I have never gotten to use it yet." She studied her wand for a moment before pointing it at me. "Sectumsempra." She shouted.
A flash of red cracked from her wand, and I dropped to the floor, dodging it. Neville and another boy stood to their feet which caught her attention long enough for me to pull out my wand.
"Stupify!" I shouted.
Her wand fell to the floor with a clash, and she stood there, like a statue frozen in time. I looked around the room as all the students stared in shock.
"What are you waiting for? Go!" I shouted.
They all scrambled to their feet and out the door as fast as they could. I stood over her for a moment, holding back the urge to stomp on her face. I could see her eyes glaring at me, but she couldn't move.
"Don't EVER threaten me again." I snarled, spitting on her face.
I walked out and shut the door behind me, checking up and down the hall to make sure no one was coming. I had to find Draco before the spell wore off. I ran back to the tower, but I figured it was too late and he was most likely at dinner. I turned on my heels and ran to the great hall. When I got there, I noticed one of the boys who was in detention talking to Draco. His eyes shot to mine, and I knew the boy had told him what happened. I slowly walked over to him as he stood to his feet. He almost fell as he struggled to get over the bench fast enough. I approached him and he stood up, looking me up and down.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"I am fine, but I might have messed up."
"You think?" He shouted.
"I have some good news though." I tried to change the subject. "Harry is coming back."
"Why the hell is that good news?" Draco asked, irritated.
"If he is coming back, that might mean he knows how to stop Voldemort. Why else would he be coming back?"
Draco's eyes got big, and he sat back down. I sat next to him and watched his face.
"You mean- "
"We could be happy?" I whispered.
He looked up at me and grabbed my face, kissing me. I realized it had been a long time since Draco has actually kissed me, I missed it. I melted into it as his hand traveled to the back of my head. We pulled apart and I bit my lip while he shook his head.
"Fuck, I missed you." He muttered.
"I am sorry about earlier." I said, dropping my gaze to the floor.
He pulled my chin up so I was looking at him again.
"Its okay. I'm sorry I am so protective over you." He smiled at me.
"Its okay. I know its from a good place."
He kissed me again and Zabini cleared his throat from behind him.
"You guys are gross, and I am trying to eat." He joked.
"Piss off Blaise." Draco and I shouted in unison.
"From this moment on, you are not to be alone. Do you understand? Alecto is going to come after you. She will try to hurt you or worse and you will not be able to fight her off by yourself, especially if she brings her brother." Draco demanded.
I nodded my head, knowing he was right.
"If I am not with you then you need to be with Zabini or other students."
"Aw mate. You trust me? Don't worry, ill watch out for her." Blaise sniffled, pretending to tear up.
I giggled and Draco smiled at me, making sure to not let Blaise see.
"Do you know when Harry will be back?" Draco questioned.
"No but knowing them it will be soon."
Draco nodded and motioned for me to sit with them. I sat down next to him and picked a piece of turkey off his plate. I was starving. After we ate, we decided to go to the common rooms. I had remembered I left my things in the library and Draco agreed to go with me to get them. We walked side by side down the hallway, chatting about nothing important. I wished it could always be this way. Us walking to classes together, talking about the future or about a quidditch match we watched together. Not our plans to murder people and how to protect our baby. I soaked in this moment as long as I could.
We reached the library and I stepped inside. All the students had gone but Snape was still there. When I walked in, he shot me a dirty look.
"Hello, professor. I'm sorry I never came back. Alecto Carrow gave me detention." I tried to explain.
"So I heard." He spoke, looking back down at the papers he was reading. "How is the baby?"
"Uh. It's good. Healthy." I was surprised he didn't yell at me for stunning Alecto.
He looked up at me and raised an eyebrow. I took the hint, grabbed my bag, and left.
"Draco, I just spoke with Snape. He knows I stunned Alecto, but he didn't seem to care." I explained, still shocked.
"Yeah, he isn't evil Quinn. He knows that when someone does something wrong, they deserve their punishment." He laughed.
Thinking back on it I guess he had never actually hurt a student before, and he was always looking out for Draco. I thought back to the night he carried me to the hospital wing.
"I care for the boy too." He had said.
Maybe he wasn't all that bad. He was still the one to kill Dumbledor, though I can't judge him for that because Draco was originally supposed to do it. I would have done it too if it meant keeping Draco from having to do it. We made it back to the common rooms and spent the rest of the day talking more about absolutely nothing important. When it was time to go to sleep, Draco was nervous to leave me.
"They aren't going to come into my room and murder me in my sleep Draco." I rolled my eyes. "I will be fine."
He bit his lip, placed his hand on my stomach and kissed me goodnight. I watched him walk up the stairs to his own bed and then I turned and went to mine. That night I barely slept. I had a strange feeling that wouldn't leave me alone.
