Draco woke up the next day. He was sore and tired, but he was alive. People stopped by to visit him as he rested. They brought him all sorts of gifts. Flowers, chocolate frogs and even books. Of course, he never read them, but he had no choice other than to listen to me while I read them to him. I never told him that I had searched for Harry, or that Ginny stunned me. If I did, he would want them both dead. Even though I was angry with Harry, I was never angry with Ginny. She was just in my way when I lost myself and that is not her fault. Blaise was the number one person, other than me, to visit him. Pansy stopped by once but left because I threatened to knock her on her ass again. Draco just laughed.
He spent a few days in recovery before he was told he could leave. We decided to leave the school in full. We packed our trunk and left that night. We knew it was time for him to complete the rest of his task and we now know that Harry knows. He may not know exactly what is coming but he knows that Draco is a death eater. Draco wants me far away from him and since I refuse to leave him, he decided we would leave together and just stay at the Manor. Lucious was back now and that was the only thing that worried me was facing him. I haven't seen him since the whole issue with my mother and Fynn. Fynn has forgiven me, but he says mom needs a little more time.
We arrived at the Manor and Narcissa greeted us at the door. She grabbed Draco's face and kissed his cheeks. He rolled his eyes and pulled her off him. I giggled and hugged her.
"I am so happy you two are here." She beamed at us.
I looked up to see Lucious standing at the top of the stairs. We made eye contact and my stomach dropped. He snarled his lip at me and turned around, stomping off in the opposite direction. I then followed Draco and Narcissa into the kitchen. I could smell food and I was starving. I had been eating the hospital food with Draco for the past week so her home cooking would be a wonderful change. We walked in and Bellatrix was sitting at the counter with her feet kicked up. She was chewing on some grapes and smiled at us as we walked in. Draco grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to him. I hid behind his arm and watched her. She waved at me with her fingers and let out a loud, ear shattering laugh. Narcissa ignored her and motioned for us to sit down. Draco sat in the seat next to Bellatrix and I sat next to Draco. Narcissa handed us plates with fresh fruit, homemade bread and oven roasted duck. My mouth began to water, and I wasted no time digging in. Draco let out a laugh and raised an eyebrow at me. I slowed down and gave him a soft smile.
"Hungry, Stillstone?" He teased.
I rolled my eyes and kept eating. Narcissa brought out the fire whiskey and poured the three of us a glass. She handed Draco one then reached out to hand me one. The second my fingers hit hers, she gasped and dropped the glass, shattering it and spilling the whiskey all over the floor.
"Oh my." She expressed. "I am so sorry. I just realized; the whiskey is bad."
"Mum, whiskey doesn't go bad, it gets better with time." Draco stated, suspiciously.
"Hush Draco, who is the adult here? You shouldn't even be drinking anyway, you just got released from medical care." She argued.
Draco raised his eyebrows and handed her his glass. She snatched it from him and walked over to the sink, placing the glass in it, and taking a deep breath.
"Are you ok Narcissa?" I asked, confused.
"I'm fine love. Just a little tired. Was up all week worrying about Draco." She answered, with a half-smile.
I could tell she was lying but it wasn't my place to push her. I looked at Draco and he was slowly eating but watching her at the same time. I nudged him and when he turned his attention to me, I raised an eyebrow at him. he looked at me, confused before realizing I was trying to get him to talk to his mother. He rolled his eyes, sighed, and put his food down.
"Mother, what's going on?" He asked with irritation in his tone.
"Nothing sweetie. I think I am going to go lay down." She huffed, straightened out her dress and walked out of the kitchen, leaving us in more confusion.
Draco shrugged and continued with his meal and after a moment I did too. We finished our food and I helped him wash the plates. Bellatrix was now asleep with her head on the counter. I glared at the top of her head as we walked out of the kitchen. Draco stopped me in the main entrance of the house before we headed upstairs.
"I want to show you something." He smiled, grabbing my hands.
He led me through his house to the back entrance. We stepped outside and the cold air surprised me so much that I gasped. Draco wrapped his arm around my shoulders and began leading me somewhere. We walked for a few moments in silence through his garden until we reached a tall tree. There was a string hanging down from a branch, but I couldn't see what it was attached to. Draco grabbed it and froze for a moment, smiling at me before finally pulling it. A narrow wooden ladder fell down, dropping leaves and dust along with it. He held out his hand to help me on to the ladder and I began climbing it. At the top I realized we were in a tree house.
"Is this- "
"The tree house we talked about building as kids. Yes." He replied quietly.
"But we never actually did it." I said with confusion.
"I know but when we were younger, you spoke about it with such longing that I decided I would make it to show to you one day."
"When?" I laughed, picturing a small 10-year-old Draco trying to build a tree house.
"In year 3."
I looked over at him as he sat down next to me. He was looking through a small square hole that was meant to be a window.
"Year 3? You-you remembered all those years later that I wanted a tree house when we were like 8?"
"Of course, I did." He smiled, still looking out the window.
I smiled and dropped my gaze to my lap where I was playing with my fingers. We sat for a few moments in silence. Taking in each other's presence. I could smell his apple soap and mint shampoo. It was a normal scent for me now but every time I smell it, I found comfort in it. He leaned back and winced as his elbows landed on the tree house floor.
"I'm still a little sore I guess." He whispered, looking down at his chest.
I placed my hand on his leg and flashed him a sympathy smile before turning my attention back to the window.
"Are you going to be ok?" I asked.
"I'm already feeling better Quinn. I will be fine."
"No Draco. I mean, after- "I trailed off for a moment before glancing at him. "I just want to know that this won't destroy you. That you will come back to me."
"Quinn." He sat back up and turned his body to face me. "I will always come back to you. No matter what happens, I will be ok as long as you are there."
I smiled at him and placed my hand on his cheek. His pale skin under the moon light made him glow. His gray eyes were shimmering like the lake and his hair was almost translucent. He was a different type of art in every different lighting.
"So beautiful." I whispered. "I promised myself I wouldn't let this world break you."
"Quinn." He grabbed my hand on his cheek. "The only thing that could break me is losing you. If I have you, I am not afraid."
A tear rolled down my cheek and he wiped it away with his thumb before gently kissing my lips. We climbed back down out of the tree and went back inside. I was shaking now as it was becoming colder the later it got. Once we were inside, Lucious stopped us at the stairs. His eyes met mine and without breaking eye contact he grabbed Draco by the shoulder.
"Draco, come with me into my study. We have some things to discuss about your task." He hissed slowly.
Draco glared up at him with an expression of disgust. He glanced over at me, but I was too focused on catching my breath to look away from Lucious. I felt Draco's hand brush against mine and I was able to turn my attention to him.
"I'll be up shortly, love." He said lowly with a soft smile.
I turned back to Lucious and nodded then proceeded to walk up the steps. It seemed like forever before I finally reached his room. I stepped in and closed the door behind me, sinking to the floor and bring my knees to my chest. I rested my forehead on my knees and began to silently cry. I didn't think seeing him would be that hard but all I could think about was my mother. How he hurt her. How he left her and my brother Fynn. What if she had never met him? would Fynn still have been born? What if he had never left her? Would I still have been born? Would Draco? Thinking about all the possibilities and what ifs, made my head hurt. Then I thought about Narcissa. Did she know? If she didn't, what if she found out? Would she want to be involved with my brother in some way? Would she feel bad? She shouldn't. None of this was her fault. I wondered what was wrong with her earlier and if she was ok. I decided that while the boys talked, I would go check on her. I stood back up and walked into the hall. I remembered where their room used to be, so I began walking in that direction. Once I reached the door, her perfume hit my nose. I smiled and knocked. After a moment it creaked open, and I could see her small pale face peek out. Her eyes met mine and I smiled.
"I just wanted to check on you. How are you feeling?" I quietly asked.
She looked down the hall then back at me, grabbing my arm and pulling me into the room. I stumbled in behind her as she shut the door. She quickly turned around and motioned for me to sit down on the bed. I was confused and startled but I did as I was told.
"I didn't want to tell you yet but its best you know." She began to frantically speak, as if, if she didn't get it out now then the world would explode. "You have to promise me you won't breath a word of this to Draco until after his task is done. I need him to have a clear mind and get it done."
My eyes grew large, and I nodded my head. What is happening? What was wrong? She took a deep breath in and placed her hand on my stomach.
"Fertilito Revelio." She whispered.
Suddenly, I could hear my own heartbeat. I looked up at her, confused.
"I can hear my heart." I stated flatly.
"No sweet girl. That is your baby's heart." She said with a small smile.
I looked back down at her hand, and it took a moment before my brain registered what she had said. I jumped to my feet and stared down at her.
"My what?" I shouted.
She stood up and pressed her finger to my lips.
"Shh. Quinn, Draco mustn't find out until much later." She whispered desperately.
"How am I supposed to keep this from him? We are too young. This can't be happening." I felt sick.
"You will find a way, love." She placed her hand on my arm.
"How did you even know?" I asked, still in shock.
"I have a gift. I was born with it. My sister Bellatrix was too but she never practiced it. I can sense things. Almost like a feeling when I touch someone and earlier when our hands touched, I could feel it. I could almost see it. A mixture of you and my son. It was beautiful. I want this baby, not only for me but for you and him. After so much darkness in the world, the two of you could bring forth something good."
I sat back down and stared at the wall with my hand on my stomach. She was right. I couldn't tell Draco. He was protective enough over me. I don't need his mind being distracted and I don't need him to keep me in the dark any more than he already does. I took a deep breath and nodded my head at her.
"I will not tell him." I promised.
She smiled and nodded back at me, sitting back down next to me.
"Can you do it again?" I asked.
