After a fairly short car journey, you all arrived at Jay's place and received a warm welcome from Gloria and Manny.
"Oooh it's so good to see you and your lovely friend again Alex!"
"It's good to see you too, Gloria, as always." You grinned at her happily.
"Come on then, come in!" She gestured to the inside of the house, pulling the door open further.

The barbecue and the usual family chaos ensues. Mitchell and Cam brought some crazy new food trend they wanted you all to try. Poutine or something, they called it. Phil made a million and one dad jokes, all of which you laughed at hysterically, much to Alex's dismay.

At one point, Luke fell in the pool and dragged Manny in with him. Manny then thought it was a great idea to drag you in with him too.
"Manny!" You exclaimed, the cold water filling all your senses.
"I had to, Y/N!" He defended, putting his hands up and laughing.
"Ohhh you're so dead!" You waded through the water towards him, cracking your knuckles and laughing.
"AHH! Luke save me!" He shrieked, attempting to hide behind Luke.
"You're on your own!" Luke shouted, swimming away and leaving Manny to face your wrath.

The day was super fun overall, Alex's family felt like your own.

Later in the evening, you decided to go out for a cigarette whilst everyone was talking in the living room. You sighed, fished the pack out your pocket, along with your lighter, and lit on up.
"Didn't know you smoked." You heard a familiar voice behind you.
You turned around to see her, "Haley, hey."
"Hey, pass me one." She held her hand out.
"Sure, here." You chucked her one, and the lighter.
The two of you smoked in silence for a few seconds.
"Never pictured you as a smoker." Haley mused.
"Yeah, bad habit I guess." You nod, as she threw the lighter back to you.
"You know, when you first came round, I never could've pictured it to lead to this. Not the smoking, like the whole situation." She rambled.
"That a good thing or a bad thing?" You ask.
"Good thing. You make Alex really happy, you're good for her. If I didn't know any better, I'd think you two were dating." She laughed a little.
"Oh, why's that? Is she, y'know?" You question, internally excited, though trying to keep a neutral expression.
"Not a clue," Haley shrugged, "Why do you wanna know?"
"Just curious." You shrugged back.
"You're just as bad a liar as she is. You have a nervous eye twitch when you lie." She pointed at your eye.
"Wow, you're good." You smiled awkwardly at her.
"Not the first time I've heard that," She joked, laughing to herself smugly, "Really though, you seriously like her?"
"You can't tell her, but yeah, I do.. I've liked her for, god, must be close to 3 years now.." You admitted, rubbing the back of your neck.
"Wow. Well, I'm not gonna tell her, but you should." She replied.
"I dunno, I don't wanna ruin what we already have." You looked down at the floor, nervous.
"It won't. She'd never stop talking to you, you're basically attached at the hip at this point. And you'll never know how she feels if you don't ask. I say go for it." She was trying her best to encourage you.
"Yeah, I guess you're right. I'll think about it." You looked up at her and smiled, before putting your cigarette out in a nearby ashtray and going back inside.
