The Prince swiftly swung open the stable door as he grabbed the leather saddle resting on the wall of the stable. He gently pet the horse's pitch black coat to calm it before placing the saddle carefully on him. He took a light leap and swung his legs in over the horse, making sure not to hit his head on the roof. "Let's do this, Midnight," he whispered as he began his ride. The men who ride horses out to the market to trade would be back any minute and the Prince was ready. He lightly tapped Midnight with the heel of his foot and they dashed off towards the merchant's gate.

The merchants were completely oblivious at the moment, for they were too busy chatting and bragging about the trades they had made. This was the prince's chance. "Hey you! The king is looking for you!" A man shouted from behind him. The Prince started riding faster and the man shouted again. "Guards! Get him!" Soon, dozens of guards were chasing the runaway Prince and he knew it was now or never. "Close the gate!" Another guard shouted. The gate began to slowly come down. "Come on Midnight! You can do this." He rode on with his hair flying effortlessly through the air. Just as the gate comes about halfway down, the Prince quickly ducks his head under. The Prince had just accomplished his first step to freedom- leaving the castle.

He continued to ride swiftly, but there was little concern about the guards catching up. The gate to too long to open and the Prince was already far into the surrounding woods. It was just about sunset, so the Prince stopped and tied Midnight to a tree with his lead. The Prince himself was exhausted after such an exhilarating journey, so he found a grassy clearing, grabbed a blanket from his bag, and went to sleep.
