Aeri watched as the once-city slowly started to turn into fields. This was the last family trip she was going to attend for a while. The summer before Aeri left for college was supposed to be a great one. Instead, she's taking a five-hour car ride in the cramped car with her two twin brothers. And her parents' crappy music. It was good enough that she had her headphones and had the window seat.

"Crap, I thought we could make it..."

"Honey, we still have two more hours. We should have stopped a while ago,"

Aeri looked up from her iPod, slowly turning the music down and listening. It was a little hard to hear since the two twins wouldn't shut up about some handheld game they got for their birthday.

"I know but you know how this car is, I was hoping-"

Her mother sighed, "I'm not sure why you are so stuck on this old car that can't even make it around downtown, much less the country. My parents would have gotten us a better car. So would have your parents-"

"It's an important piece of memory for me. I'm not...I'm not in the mood to continue talking. I will find somewhere to stop and see what's going on. It looks like it's not shifting right..."

Her mother turns to look at the back seats.

"Kids, we are going to stop here soon to check on the car and stretch our legs! Sounds good?"

The boys nod without saying anything.

Aeri made eye contact with her mother and nodded, turning her music back up.

It didn't take long for her parents to exclaim statements of relief when a house was in view. Aeri, even without knowing anything about cars, knew there was something wrong with the car.

"I hope someone is home here, and someone can help,"

"I'm sure honey, it's almost dinner time,"

Her father turned into the long gravel drive away as soon as possible, the gravel not helping the speed either.

Aeri noticed that the front porch light was turned on. Even with the sun slowly setting, it wasn't that dark, but it made it known that someone was home.

The car came to a stop and her father was quick to get out of the car. The moment her father's feet hit the gravel ground, the door swung open, revealing an older woman and an older man. Just from looking at the older man, Aeri could tell how much bigger he was than her father.

"Hello! Is everything alright?" the woman asked, pushing past her husband a bit. Thankfully the door was open, her father's door, so it was easy to hear what was going on.

Aeri's mother took it upon herself to also get out, giving a little smile to the couple on the porch.

"Hello! Yes, um, our car is having issues and we just need a little help figuring out the issue. We still have quite a bit of way to go and we wanted to figure it out before it was too late."

Aeri watched from the car window as the two on the porch quietly talked before turning back to the car.

"How about you all come in and we can talk! Dinner is almost done so we can talk over some good food," the woman calls out.

"Thank you, just give us a moment!"

Aeri's mother went back into the car and waited for her husband to do the same before asking "Do you think this is safe?"

Her father thought for a moment, "It's better than nothing, plus it would feed the kids."

Her mother sighed and nodded. "Okay kids, come on out,"
