Isabelle watches Nick enter the lounge, removing his jacket to display his shirt tucked neatly into his jeans. This time he wore a tie under his vest, making her smile. She met him at the bar, "look at you Nicky."

He sighed, shaking his head, "not Nicky. What did I say this morning?"

"Yeah yeah. Just Nick. Well come on Just Nick." She laughed as she heard him sigh, following her towards the stage. She saw him stop and shake his head, "what?"

Nick noticed her in the front row with a man, "nope. I can't do it."

"Can't do what?! Sing?" She followed his gaze to a woman with a short pixie cut talking to the man next to her, "because of her?"

Nick nodded as he felt Isabelle grab his arm, "I can't sing."

"You can and you will Nicholas. Don't let an ex-girlfriend ruin your moment. In fact you should want to sing even more to show her what she's missing. You're amazing. Now stop being a wimp and get up on this stage with me. I will play, you will sing and it will be marvelous." She smiled as she watched a small shy smile spread across his face. "Come on Nicky."

"Fine, Izzie. Let's do this." He climbed onto the stage after Isabelle, watching her sit at the piano as he stood in front of the microphone. He saw his ex-girlfriend Hannah recognize him from her table giving him a smile as he tried to avoid her gaze, looking anywhere but her. He looked at Isabelle as she nodded encouragingly as she started to play the piano for him to sing. He took a deep breath, closing his eyes as he began to sing.

🎵 Hey, you
I'm just now leaving
Can I come around later on this evening?
Or do you need time?
Yes, of course, that's fine
Hey, you
Good morning
I'm sure you're busy now, why else would you ignore me?
Or do you need space?
You can't help it if your mind has changed
So go ahead and break my heart again
Leave me wondering why the hell I ever let you in
Are you the definition of insanity?
Or am I?
Oh, it must be nice
To love someone who lets you break them twice
You're so blue
Are you still breathing?
Won't you tell me if you found that deeper meaning?
Do you think I've gone blind?
I know it's not the truth when you say, "I'm fine"
So go ahead and break my heart again
Leave me wonderin' why the hell I ever let you in
Are you the definition of insanity?
Or am I?
Oh, it must be nice
To love someone who lets you break them twice
So don't pretend that I'm the instigator
You were the one, but you're born to say goodbye
Kissed me half a decade later
That same perfume, those same sad eyes
Go ahead and break my heart again
Leave me wonderin' why the hell I ever let you in
Are you the definition of insanity?
Or am I?
Or am I?
Must be nice
To love someone who lets you break them twice🎵

He smiled at the applause he got as he felt Isabelle get up from the piano, putting her arm around his shoulder, leaning in to the microphone.

"Everyone meet Nick Vaughn, my new trumpet player and sometimes co-singer."

He chuckled nervously, putting up a hand before she nudged him off the stage.

"You're great Nick. Come back in the morning at 10 for rehearsals with the band?"

Nick nodded, "yeah. Of course. Thank you so much Isabelle."

She saw him look past her, making her turn to see the girl he said was his ex making her way towards them. "Right." Isabelle looked back at Nick, kissing him on the cheek as he looked back at her, "you're welcome."

He saw her wink at him before she walked away back to the stage in time for Hannah to make her way to him.

"She's pretty. And you look great Nick."

He blushed, "oh she..." He chuckled, now realizing why she kissed his cheek. "Um, thanks Hannah. You look good too." He nervously kissed her cheek as she smiled, "can I get you a drink?"

Hannah shook her head, "oh thanks, but I can't."

Nick felt his heart jump to his throat as he watched Hannah place her hand on her stomach, noticing for the first time the engagement ring on her left hand. "You're..."

"Pregnant. Yes. 12 weeks."

He nodded, looking back up at her, "wow. That's so great. Congratulations Hannah."

"Thanks Nick." She pointed behind her, "well I should probably get back. It was nice seeing you again. And I never knew you were such a great singer."

Nick only nods as he watches her walk away before groaning, turning to the bar. "Whiskey. Please. Leave the bottle."

Isabelle sings from the stage, watching Nick's interaction with his ex-girlfriend the whole time. She sees him sit at the bar, a bottle of whiskey in front of him after the girl left him. Once she finished her set, she went and sat next to Nick, pulling the bottle away from him. She handed it back to the bartender, "thanks Brian. He's cut off though."

Nick only grunted at Isabelle as she pulled on his arm to make him face her.

"Nick. Pull yourself together. You going to fall off the rails every time an ex comes in here? You think I don't ever have someone from my past sneak up on me at random times. We all do. Let it go."

He shook his head, pulling his arm away from her, "you don't know anything about me Isabelle. Don't pretend like you do."

She laughed as she stood up, seeing him stumble slightly as he tried to do the same. "I'm not pretending to know anything about you, just like you know nothing about me. But I can still be a professional. Go home and sleep it off and come back tomorrow morning with a smile and an apology." She heard him huff as she followed him to put on his coat. She grabbed his arm outside the door, "tell me you aren't driving."

"No, mom! I'm walking. I'll see you in the morning."

She sighed, rolling her eyes as she watched him start to walk away and then stop, turn around and walk the opposite way, "idiot."
