"Hufflepuff wins!"-Lee JordanIt was getting cold. As the Quidditch season approached, Jay saw even more quarrels than usual between opposing teams: he himself had almost been the unintentional target of a Gryffindor about to jinx a passing Slytherin. Of course, this ended after the incredible match where Harry Potter, youngest seeker in a century, nearly swallowed the snitch and gave Gryffindor the lead in the cup, which made Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws the next attackers for the nearest Quidditch match, right before winter break. People had began wearing their winter cloaks, and all hope of a last warm breeze was swept out their minds as soon as the first blanket of snow covered Hogwarts.
It was quite convenient than, that Professor Flitwick had begun having them practice fire conjuring spells.
"Can't wait till we master this, I'll never be cold again." muttered Jay as they waved their wands at the charred piece of wood they were practicing on.
"We're not aloud to use magic on the grounds for some stupid reason. replied Gold in an undertone.
"God damn it, I'm not gonna go outside till March. Incendio."Potions class became even more horrible, as the frigidness of the dungeons kept them all glued to their cauldrons fire as they brew strength potions and shivered through the period. Snape had been giving them more homework than ever, and it seemed like he either wanted to go off with a bang before Christmas, wanted to give them the least happy holidays ever, or even both, but whatever it was, Jay was said to say he was succeeding.
As the match between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw grew nearer, toxicity between houses increased. The two houses began looking for deserted corridors free of staff to curse players, throwing dirty looks over the shoulder, and even in classes they seemed determined to outshine each other. Jay thought it was a miracle that the players were somehow keeping up with their share of homework, considering that they were having to deal with as much practice as they could a week.
In the short times that they were free of homework, Jay and Flynn had begun practicing their disarming spells and Jelly Leg Jinxes, the latter that had such a strange incantation that Flynn had burst out laughing at the sight of it.
"Look at this Jay, Locomotor Wiggly, did they seriously run out of ideas that fast?"he said in an out of breath sort of gasping when he was done laughing. In Transfiguration, they had gotten to turning objects into birds, and the mess in the classroom grew so large due to the multiple bird droppings everywhere that McGonagall was cleaning things with her wand every second or so, and Jay, Flynn, and Gold had quickly retreated under their desks to practice.
As game day for the Quidditch match finally came, the trio ran off with everyone else into the stadium at twelve, and sat themselves down. Lee Jordan, a third year Gryffindor was commentating the match, and when he finished listing off the players names, the players kicked off.
"And that's Ravenclaw in possession, their speeding towards the goalposts, Ravenclaw chaser Jason Dashawn passes the Quaffle to Nicholas Gomez, he makes an approach on the goalposts, can the new second year Keeper Gibson Brayshon save it? Excellent bludger dodge from Nicholas and he throws the Quaffle and HE SAVES IT! Brayshon saves it, Quaffle back in the match, Hufflepuff chaser Derrion Smarna is in possession, making an approach on the goalposts but- OUCH a Bludger hits em' right on the shoulder, good hit from beater Bryan Neek, and the Quaffle is dropped, and Jason snatches it from below, speeding towards Hufflepuff goalposts, passes it to Jodi Erka who's right up to the goalpost can Gibson save it again? No! Gibson misses the Quaffle, so close to it, and it's 10 - 0 now, 10 - 0, folks, and now Hufflepuff is in possession, Hufflepuff in possession, another nice Bludger from Bryan, but Rodrigo Jury dodges it with a quick spin and passes it over to Jerry Zyreen who makes an approach on the Ravenclaw goalposts, can he make it past keeper Jamal Requine, and YES HE CAN! 10 - 10 folks! Quaffle now in Ravenclaw possession but a stray Bludger right there, duck Jodi! Oof, seems like that one hit it's target, and Derrion grabs the Quaffle, he's at the goalposts, looks like an easy save for Jamal here though- IT WAS A FEINT! IT WAS A FEINT AND THE SCORE IS 20 - 10 FOLKS! And now the Quaffle back in Ravenclaw palms, they don't look to happy about that double score, their flying quickly and that's Jason to Nicholas and a nice Bludger dodge from Gomez here whose just at the post, you can do it Brayshon, HE DOES IT! HE SAVES IT! Quaffle again in Ravenclaw hands- wait, has Cedric Diggory seen the Snitch? HE SAW IT! And that's Diggery diving towards it, Cho Chang of Ravenclaw following, but Diggory saw it first, he's opening his palm, and YES! HE CAUGHT THE SNITCH! Cedric Diggory has caught the Snitch, the score is 170 - 10! Hufflepuff wins!"
Jay felt every muscle in his body explode with excitement, he jumped up and down, up and down cheering wildly. Gold was screaming at the top of her lungs, Flynn was releasing fireworks from his wand, he could not believe it, Hufflepuff had won! Feeling a bit lightheaded, the group left the stadium, back to the Hufflepuff common room. A huge party was happening, it seemed like they had gotten food exactly like it was served at Hogwarts, but where from? This mystery did not bother them much at all however, they joined in in the celebrations, shouting out with the others. At about 12 am, the last of the party had dispersed, and everyone went to their dormitories to sleep.
One week later, they were packing their trunks. Jay, Flynn and Gold were heading back home, to Littleroot street. As Jay picked up a reluctant Ether into his cage, and Flynn had finished packing all his books, they headed up out of the common room with Gold carrying her cat, Silver, in her arms, and with the rest of the people leaving for Christmas. They walked out the giant door that held the main entry for Hogwarts castle, and headed back down to the Hogwarts Express. The three of them found a compartment together, and sat down, Jay releasing Ether to give a letter to his mum. As they enjoyed their last hours of being able to use magic, it seemed like the train had begun to slow to a stop far to soon, and they collected their luggage and headed out the train.
Jay's mother and Gold's mother were there, greeting them heartily. They walked out of Kings Cross, back to the fireplace they had gotten to there with, and cried out, "Number 7, Littleroot Street!"
As they walked into fire, the familiar sensation of floo powder overtook them, and a second later, they were back in the household of the Sione family, in Littleroot street. The two families parted ways into their own houses, and went to bed.The next morning Jay woke up with the same feeling of loss he had yesterday- no magic for two weeks. He remembered fondly, the 'duels' he and Flynn had had when they were younger, where they would pick sticks up from the ground, jab them through the air and cry spells. There was quite a memorable moment one time where Jay jabbed his stick through the air and yelled out Expelliarmus, and Flynn actually dropped his stick.
He dressed himself, and decided not to wake up Flynn, thinking that he would probably get pretty mad at him for waking him up at seven. As he walked himself down the stairs, he saw that his mother had, as expected, gone off to the Ministry already. So he made himself a sandwich, and headed out the door to go visit Gold. Like Jay, her mother as well had already left, as Ms. Sione worked as a lawyer at the Ministry.
"Hi Jay." Gold said with a yawn as she opened the door. As Jay walked in, he saw Gold's father busying himself chopping up vegetables the Muggle way, and a wizarding radio that was currently playing something called Which Broomstick: Podcast Edition.
"Barely a day in, and I'm already missing free wand usage." Jay muttered sadly.
"Well at least we have Quidditch and Christmas. C'mon, you should wake up Flynn, we can have a snowball fight!" Gold replied optimistically.
"Well we'll have to wait a couple more days before a snowball fight, it's no fun without at least half a meter of snow." Jay said as he began to leave out the door, "But yeah, I'll wake up Flynn, we can play Quidditch."This cycle of waking up, going to Gold's, sometimes eating there, playing Quidditch, and, when the snow deepened, having snowball fights continued until Christmas, where surprisingly, everyone was home. Gold and her family were having Christmas with Jay and Flynn, and as they wrapped presents and put up decorations, the holiday spirit overtaking them.
"Hey, thanks, I've been craving something chocolatey for days." Gold said happily as they unwrapped presents.
"Oh, I could use a new radio." muttered Flynn as he unwrapped Jay's gift.
"No problem... hey mum, can we head off to the dinner table? Oh, and Gold, thanks for the new Gobstones set." replied Jay.That Christmas was a good one, but their return to Hogwarts drew nearer, until they were packing their things as though they had begun break just yesterday. They took the same road as they did last time: using floo powder to a settlement near Kings Cross, and taking the train from there, and they ran through the barrier that gained access to Platform Nine and Three Quarters. They said their last goodbyes, and entered the train. Finding an empty compartment quite easily, they sat comfortably and spoke excitedly of being able to use magic again. As the train finally slowed to a stop, they headed up to the castle, this time the way everyone else did it; with the carriages. They were led by invisible horses, and when they stopped in front of the castle, the three of them exited, and made their way back up the castle.
Heading down to the Hufflepuff common room, Jay grinned at Flynn happily. They were back, back at their second home.
