Chapter 12: Distraught

Footstep, pause, footsteps, pause. A longer pause.
You blink your eyes open slowly, hazily. Your head was tilted down, everywhere hurt. Everywhere. You had definitely broken a bone or two.
A pair of polished black shoes, matched with white doctor trousers stands a foot away from you. You already knew who it was.
"You did not bring back what I want, y/n"
You couldn't bring yourself to look up at him.
He helps you with that, he kneels in front of you and grabs the back of your neck.
"You know..." He starts, staring deep into your eyes with anger and smugness.
"If you won't be giving me what I want-" he lifts you up slowly, holding your side tightly.
"I guess I will have to get it myself"
"h-how?" You choke.
He opens his mouth to speak, but, he is interrupted by a loud noise and hissing noises from the doors. He turns his head, looking back at you with a wide toothy grin. You droop your head to the side to look, your body aches. There, walking through a small and tight corridor, was the engineer.

Your heart drops.
"Ple-please don't David, I can do anything-" he covers your mouth, pulling your back to him tightly.
You look around with wide eyes in panic. You wriggle your shoulders in discomfort. He was stepping slowly towards you both, his eyes locked onto David. Your breathing was getting quicker the closer he got.
David pulls you both back a little, speaking harshly in his language. He was stopped in his tracks. So he doesn't speak English. Great. He lets go of your mouth, you take in a big breath. Your heart felt like bursting. He glances down at you for a moment, looking back at David.
"Let me-" he slaps his hand back over your mouth, you wince at the force.
The engineer glances back at you for a little longer this time.
Your pleading and cries were too muffled. You lean back into David, hoping you could knock him over.
He doesn't move, simply continues speaking to the engineer. The engineer looked calm. What was David telling him?

He continues his way to you both, David speaks with anger and passion in his tone. The engineer tilts his head forward slowly in a nod. He walks towards you, you glance to the side at David. His face was bright and happy. David shoves you to the engineer, you stumble over and land by his feet. You look up at him quickly, he leans down and lifts you up to him.

Then.
He speaks, in a low and powerful voice. You look at David as he places you over his shoulder, David's face no longer looks pleased. He looks distraught.
