psychiatric hold

marina was in and out of consciousness for the first day, she didn't realise what was happening until a psychiatrist, meredith, said that she was on a seventy two hour psychiatric hold.

throughout those three days, she was alone. except from her being watched through the window in the door, and of course in the bathroom, where a member of staff had to be at all times.

she was sick of everything, and that's what she told meredith.

she said that she didn't want to live without her mother, she told meredith how her dad killed her mother in front of her, apologised, then left.

meredith was sympathetic to the situation, she was caring.

over the three days, marina was on a cocktail of drugs, anti depressants and anti psychotics, were flooded through her system along with the occasional bag of fluids.

on the second day, the staff sedated her whilst they gave her a feeding tube. she had refused to eat since she had got there and this was their only choice.

meredith diagnosed her with a severe anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder after her initial evaluation. it seemed that her mother's death had pushed her to the breaking point.

all marina did was sleep for three days, and that helped a lot, along with the mandated therapy and medications.

for the long term, she was put on fluoxetine and diazepam, along with a recommendation to take melatonin to help regulate her sleep schedule once she left.

at the end of day three, a social worker called nick came to see her.

apparently, her mother had another three sons which she never knew about, so one of them were called, his name was luke.

he also worked in the hospital she was first in, before she was transferred to the psychiatric hospital.

he demanded them to transfer to his hospital, which was happening right now.

she was sat in the ambulance, with wrists in padded restraints, her social worker next to her.

"can you please take the restraints off?" she asked the paramedic who was behind her, who looked to her social worker.

after a nod of approval, they were removed, her wrists had a red patch where the restraints had been.

"can i see what i look like, have you got a mirror or something." she asked nick.

he passed over his phone, which had the camera on already.

she took a harsh breath in when she saw herself.

she had massive eye bags, which looked more like bruises. she had visibly lost weight, her cheekbones were more visible and she had small blisters where her eyes had constantly been rubbed with tissues after her crying.

her feeding tube was yellow, stuck to the side of her face with a piece of white medical tape.

her hair hadn't been brushed in days as well as her teeth.

meredith had given her some things to take with her to the new hospital, it was all in a big bag labelled patient belongings.

it consisted of three pairs of navy scrubs, some socks and underwear as well as a small sports bra, some toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste and mouthwash, a roll on deodrant, a pair of slip on shoes, a puffer coat with the hospital logo on it and a small bag of food such as fruit snacks and crackers.

she loved meredith. she had agreed to see her on a weekly basis as her new psychiatrist.

soon enough, they were at the hospital, where a man who looked much like her was waiting, this must be luke she thought to herself.

nick stayed with her, which she was thankful for, holding her hand and her bag of belongings.
