When we finally got out the sun was warming the sky. I went searching for my hearing aids and some how found them unscathed. I put them back on as Chubs and Ruby had finished making a plan.
"You two go to Clancy's office, my hearing aids are going to die soon, I have to at least go back to the cabin and try to find batteries," I said before taking off towards the cabin.
Some how my bag had ended up in a area that was unscathed. I grabbed it and replaced the batteries in my hearing aids before slipping some dry clothes on and heading for the office. Liam was back and Ruby seemed to be making a call.
Everything will be okay.Hours later, when it was just the four of us back on the road, Chubs and Ruby explained everything.
"I really thought I could control him," Ruby said. "I'm an idiot."
"Yes, you are," Chubs agreed. "But you're our idiot, so be more careful next time."
"Co-signed," Liam said.
"Well at least you deal with him almost completely deaf," I said chuckling.
Chubs whipped his head towards me. "You did what! Do you know how dangerous that was?"
"Yes Charles, I didn't ask to have bad hearing. Yes I know I'm an idiot," I said laughing.
I didn't listen to the rest of Chubs rant about how dangerous that was and slightly dozed off. When I came to we were parked in a Days Inn and chubs had Jack's letter.
"I'm coming with," I said immediately. I knew Chubs was about to try and do this alone. "One, it's dangerous to go out there by your self, and two, I don't want to be alone with the lovebirds."
"All right; just be careful, will you?" Liam said.
Me and Chubs scurried off to room 103. The door cracked open, Mr.Fields face appeared.
Chubs lifted the letter to him. "Mr.Fields? I'm was a friend of Jack's he wrote this for you."
"You leave me alone you fucking freaks!" he yelled. His face flushed crimson.
He shut the door again and when he opened it he was holding a gun. Me and Chubs raised our hands backed up. He shot Chubs then he turned to me a sent off a second shot that hit me, I couldn't tell where. I saw Chubs on the ground and pounced. I pushed him back into the room, knocking the gun from his hands. We went back and forth before he grabbed the coffee pot and seared it against my neck. I bite my lip in pain. Then he poured the boiling hot coffee down my arm and I backed out of the room in pain. A neighbor had taken my place holding him down as I gripped my arm in pain. Someone tried to grab me.
"Don't touch me!" I yelled and turned to see Liam and Ruby hauling Chubs into the car. "Chubs!" I yelled running to join them
Mr.Fields was yelling behind me and I was getting dizzy from blood loss. I used the telekinesis to keep the blood in as I got in the car. We sped off.
Everyone was yelling and I was delirious. I checked myself. "He shot me," I mustered. Then I blacked out. When I woke, I was back in the league infirmary. Cate was sitting on my bed.
"You've been in a coma for a few days," She said. "You were shot and lost a lot of blood."
I sat up a bit. "Where's Chubs? Ruby? Liam?"
"Chubs is in a hospital in Virginia and Liam was let go," Cate explained.
"And Ruby?" I asked.
"Right here," I heard and turned to see her waving.
"Ruby told us everything so you're not in trouble," Cate said.
I nodded and tried to move,my arm to hug her but I couldn't. I looked down and it was bandaged.
"I wouldn't try that. You have a second degree burn on you neck and some pretty bad ones on your arm," Cate said.
After that I sat there. In the infirmary bed. Hoping my friends were okay.
