Later on that evening, after we had dinner and Othniel asleep in his room.
Mom asked me and Brie to see her in her room, I knocked and opened the door not waiting for her reply and we stepped in. I sat on the bed while Brie sat on a stool beside the bed.
"Mom." I called, when she wasn't in her room.
"I'm coming, I'm in the shower." We heard her say, we waited a few minutes before she came out, wrapped in a white towel. She dabbed her self and put on a nightwear then settled on her bed across from me.
"So, I wanted to give you two a few instructions," she began. "We're in a new town now, new country, a new continent entirely, to be precise and obviously things aren't done here in California as they are in Nigeria," she paused and studied our faces, "so I have to set some rules that'll help keep us both in understanding terms with each other and not argue or anything, and I'll really appreciate if you both adhere to it truly." She looked at us again and picked up a notepad that was beside her.
"First off, we have curfew," she pauses again, "you are not to be out past 10:30, that's very much late enough," she looked at us once more. Is she like expecting us to say something or what? I looked at Brie and she just shrugs probably wondering the same.
"Also, if your going to be having visitors, male or female, the door should always be opened, when you get back from school, before anything, you're to finish up any other school work first, you're not allowed to throw parties or any other rubbish of such and_" She pauses.
"You know what?" She asks, "this is a bit long and I have to sleep now," she handed me the notepad, "here, you both go through it yourself, I need to sleep early for work tomorrow, now get out of my room."
Wait what.
"Mom, you called us in here, you start this whole conversation dramatically." Brie says, "now , you're telling us to just get out without even finishing up with what you called us in for, really Mom?" She asked her.
"Well, I didn't expect it to be so, boring, I expected protests of some kind," she argued "but you both were just staring at me like two mute goodie two shoes."
I laughed, "wait, really? You wanted us to say something?" I asked her in between.
"Well yeah," she says and shrugs.
"No wonder you kept studying our faces." Brie said and I laughed more.
"Well," Brie continued and sat up, "you could extend the curfew to 11:00, and the open door rule should maybe apply only to girl visitors?" She wiggles her eyebrows at Mom at the last suggestion.
"Haha, funny," Mom fake laughs, "don't even think about it," she says deadpan.
"But you said we should protest," I argued.
"But I didn't say I'd agree to it, did I?" She asks. Of course, "Nope." I replied her with a slight pop at the p sound.
"Good, now out," she said and got comfortable on her bed, "and turn the lights off, please." She added before shutting her eyes not even waiting for our reply.
"Well buddy, let's move." I said to Brie and we stroll out of the room.
"Don't you think we should check out the rest of the list?" Brie asked me when we were about to depart to our rooms, which were directly opposite each other.
"Nah, let's do it tomorrow, I'm worn out" I stretched while waiting for her to reply, so I could go in, I can already feel the softness of that comfy bed, just a few steps away.
"Meh, alright," she shrugs and opens her door.
"Goodnight," I didn't know if she heard or not, I was already asleep before my head touched the pillows.

"Dami," someone said, shaking me a little the next morning.
"Dami, wake up," it was Brie, I'm not answering this girl.
"Dami, wake up, there's no school today," I jumped awake and scrambled to a sitting position.
"Did you just say there's no school today?" I asked her, my pupils a little elated.
"Lazy idiot," she reached out and smacked me upside of my head.
"Ow! Brie, why did you do that?" I asked as I touched the spot. That was painful.
"Because you only got up at the mention of no school, you lazier than a slug," she says her hand on her hips.
"I'm not lazy, I just really don't won't to go to school," just one day there and I'm tired of it already, "and besides slugs are slow, not lazy," I told her.
"Yeah, whatever, I don't care" she says and starts to leave the room.
"Wait!" I call after her, "is there really no school or you just said that to wake me up?"
"Both," she answers and I dance an Irish jig in my head. Yes!
No school, no school, no school, no school, no school.
Don't get me wrong I don't hate school or anything like that, but yesterday was very stressful, maybe it was because it was just our first day, but still, I'm happy to not be doing that today.
Bleh bleh, enough. I'm hitting the showers.

"Shut up! You this fool" I said to Abi on the phone some hours later. He's actual name was Abitoluwa pronounced (Ah-bi-toe-loo-wah), but we call him Abi for short. The fool was stressing my life over the phone right now, but I'm definitely not cutting the call, surprisingly, I missed the idiot.
"You're finally getting through to me after, since what? Like a week now, that you left for California and you've start to insult me already," he says. "You're being disrespectful because you're like thirteen km away abi (right)? He asks.
"Abi, again, shut up," I told him once more. Abi is/was my best friend back in Nigeria, the boy is very foolish and he usually annoys my spirit, but I won't have it any other way. Apparently, this boy is ditching school today, why? Because he has decided to dedicate his entirely morning to talking to me when he learnt that I wasn't going to school, apparently I have to update him on everything that's been happening so far. "If you were sitting right next to me I'd still insult your life." I told him
"Disrespectful and rude," he continued to tease me and I could picture him shaking his head with his disappointed expression, "just tell me if you've finally been productive with your time and life since you left."
It's like this boy is high, "Abitoluwa, when have I never been productive with my time?" I ask him. "It's you gangan (precisely) that's a lazy fool,"I remind him.
"No, it's you Dami," he says, "okay lemme ask this, what did you plan on doing for today?
"Oh I see where you're going with this, but I won't let you have this one, I hadn't planned on doing anything today because I didn't know there was a general holiday," I defend
"The only thing I heard in that entire sentence is and I quote ' I hadn't planned on doing anything today '," he says, "and now that you are aware, you're probably just going to be sitting and watching," he pauses, "sorry rewatching old episodes of all your favorite animes on your couch all day, do I lie?" He asks me.
I hate this boy, why did he have to know me so well?
"You know what, I'm not going to answer that," I told him.
"Hah! Of course" he says and I heard him laugh, idiot boy.
"Anyways, where did you say Brie went again?" He asks
"To make her hair, she wants to do 'white' hair." I said, note the sarcasm.
"Oh okay," he said, "and Mom?"
"Grocery shopping with Othniel"
