Chapter 20: The Pursuit of Power

Mangel

I slammed on the table and demanded, "Hey, the thing you did for Vanity, do it for me!"

Discord simply wiped her face, "Say it, don't spray it, Mangel. Just give me your Nightmare Book."

Discord implanted a whole Nightmare Book into my own. The power increase was immense!

"Hell yeah!" I howled, "I feel like a thousand Riders couldn't stop me!"

Mark

I woke up and found Ramon and Mrs. Cromwell unconscious and Bridget Lenoir standing over me. There was a guy with a goatee who looked a lot like her. It was Trident! He picked up Evil Dragon and happily announced, "We're just about done here, sis!"

Bridget held a Sacred Blade to my neck, "If you're smart, you'll give me Brave Dragon."

I gave her the book, but that wasn't enough. When she and her brother warped back to the guild, they took me with them.

Rowan

When Aura, Mary, Abner, and I returned from shopping with a new set of clothes and ice cream for Mark, we found Ramon and Mrs. Cromwell waking up.

"What happened?" Aura asked, helping her mom up.

"The Lenoir twins happened." answered Ramon, "They took Mark."

Abner teleported us through the new barrier set up around the guildhall. That must have been how Mary and Mark were able to get in to save me before. We didn't get far before Charybdis and Mangel teleported into the room. Mangel had this new black recolor like Vanity.

Mangel asked me.

"We're gonna settle things once and for all today, Mane!"

"Go on ahead, ladies!" ordered Evander, "We'll deal with these two."

Mark

I woke up in a dark room and found myself hooked to what looked like an EKG machine. It looked like it was draining something out of me because every time I felt weaker and weaker, a tank connected to the machine filled up with this rainbow liquid.

"That stuff was inside me?"

"Yes. It's the energy you absorbed in the Dream World when you fought Kamen Rider Grimm."

I turned to see the guy who lead me to the Book of Sorrow, accompanied by Bridget and Trident.

"It's you! So you're the traitor!"

"Master Mythos has not betrayed anyone!" Trident shouted back at me, "The will of the guild is whatever his will is."

"Okay, that's some cult-type shit."

"You disrespectful-"

Bridget calmed him down as he was ready to spear me like a fish, "That's enough, Bennett. The master still wants him alive. Wait until he's done with him."

"My apologies." Bennett put Durendal aside.

"What do you need that energy from me for anyway?" I asked, "Why can't you just go to Dream World and absorb it yourself?"

"Because I hate to admit it, but I don't have the same affinity for Dream World's energy that you do. An affinity like yours hasn't been seen since my ancestor, the first Master Mythos. When he discovered the Dream World he feared its power would be used by others for evil. He was frightened by the depths of humanity's vanity, perversion, and bloodlust. However, it was his fears that gave birth to the Nightmare World and the first three Fearbeasts."
