PART 1: how her character was written

we know that everybody [on the "good" side] loves sophie, platonically or romantically. she's the most powerful elf to ever walk the planet, and is the prettiest, smartest, most talented elf to exist.

i'm rolling my eyes from just writing this.

nobody in foxfire really hates sophie. i mean, except for stina's group. wylie doesn't count as, number one, he turned to like her, and number two, he had a very good reason to dislike her. however, sophie isn't hated. she instantly has friends, she instantly is the "golden child", the list goes on and on.

of course, this isn't realistic. her instant bonding and rise to leadership in her friendship and world wouldn't actually happen in real life. the story is molded to push sophie foster to the top, but sacrifices things like character development, morals and realisticness. this creates a "fake" character, which isn't relatable or enjoyable to read.

also, a lot of characters have a romantic interest in sophie. whether the relationship being because of true love or a craving for power, it's instant and unnecessary love. the story only seems like a love dodecahedron, and leaves out the actual plot.

like i said before, it's strange to read and only worsens sophie's character.

sophie is powerful. we all know it. and usually, a very powerful character is absolutely fine. however, if you pile this all up against the fact that everybody loves her, her flawlessness and absolute righteousness, sophie becomes more of a mary sue than a sophie foster.

sure, you could argue that sophie is clumsy and is bad at alchemy, but this doesn't impact anything in the plot. we haven't seen alchemy become a major part of the story, and whenever sophie is fighting against the neverseen, *poof*, clumsiness gone.

she excels in everything, whether it be in abilities of human schooling, she always places first. when can we have a time where our main character fails and actually impacts her and the storyline?

the black swan have lost a lot. but we haven't seen any improvement.

the kotlc books are just made up of times where the black swan are just like;

"yeah guys! we need to improve and make detailed plans and blah blah blah"

but when it comes to the real battles they throw out their plans and skills and improvise.

honestly i'm not even surprised that they lose all the time.
