"Another castle? Remember when y'all went to Dracula's castle?", I asked as we approched the castle. We were still in Canada with Kat and Celina, exploring another haunted place.
"Yeah, we remember", Sam replied, turning to look at me, walking backwards.
"Hey, turn around!", Kat said, slapping him lightly on top of the head. She was on Sam's back, and I was on Colby's. Somehow, we had convinced them to give us piggy back rides while we were at the castle. Or at least as we walked up to the castle.
"Yeah, turn around Sam. You're gonna run Kat right into a wall", I replied. Sam shook his head, quickly flipping me off before turning around and walking forward again. Once we got to the front of the castle, Kat and I got off the boys' backs and entered the castle.
~Time Skip~
The investigation had ended and we were back at the hotel. I was on the phone with Kat, even though she was right across the hall. We were talking about anything we could think of, mostly just random nonsense, until I got another call.
"Oh, Kat, Nate's calling-", I began.
"Answer it. Bye Evie", she said. I could tell she was smiling on the other end of the phone. She hung up and I answered Nate's call.
"Hello Nate", I said once I picked up his call.
"Hello Eve. What are you doing right now?", he asked.
"Right now? I'm sitting in a hotel room in Canada talking to you. Why?", I replied.
"Damn. I was gonna see if you wanted to hang out"
"Are you bored or something?"
"Not exactly, but I kinda just wanted to see you"
"Aww. You miss me!"
"Shut up. I do not"
"Do you ever call Colby or Sam when they're out of town?"
"No. I just wait until they come back to call them"
"So you do miss me"
"Maybe a little bit..."
"Well, I'll be back in a couple days. Don't worry. You can see me then"
"Really?", he said. He perked up at this. His voice sounding happy.
"You'll be the first person I call"
"I can't wait"
"Evie. Stop flirting with Nate", Colby called from the bathroom.
"Shut up Colby", I replied.
"Are you flirting with me Eve?", Nate said.
"No, of course not"
That was a lie. I was definitely flirting with Nate. And he knew it too. He didn't say anything else about it though.
"Well, I know it's getting late, and you must be tired after your investigation. So I'll let you get some sleep. Text when you're on your way back, okay?"
"Nate...are you worried about me?"
"Slightly yes. With Colby driving...anything could happen"
"Hey, I am a great driver!", Colby said.
"Sometimes...", Nate said. "Now, Eve, you go to bed, and text me when you're on your way back, okay?"
"Okay, dad"
Nate just laughed and said goodbye, telling me to sleep again before hanging up. Colby left the bathroom and got into his bed.
"So, you weren't flirting with Nate?", he asked.
"I will punch you in the face", I replied. I turned the light off and turned my back to my cousin, falling asleep, a smile on my face, thinking about Nate.
