Oxygen

Three

We had gone back to Kansas and as soon as we got back, I called Nate. I was at my parent's house (which was across the street from Colby's, which is why we were always so close). He was over within a few minutes. I opened the door and immediately, I was in Nate's arms. I laughed as he hugged me, and he had the biggest smile on his face. We weren't dating, but it almost felt like we were in that moment.

"You're very excited to see me", I said once he let go of me.

"Of course I am. I have something I need to show you. Tonight", he said.

"Tonight?"

"Yes, dress causal"

"Okay"

Nate smiled and we spent a few hours together before he left, saying he had to get ready for tonight, suggesting I do the same. I agreed and he hugged me tightly before leaving to get ready.

~Time Skip~

Nate picked me up about 2 hours later and we drove for a bit before Nate stopped. He got out of the car and rushed over to open my door. He grabbed my hand and led me up a small hill. He had a blanket laid out there and he laid down on it. I followed suit, mostly since Nate was still holding my hand. We laid in silence for a minute before Nate turned to look at me. I looked over at him and he smiled at me. I was about to say something, when Nate suddenly kissed me. I immediately kissed him back. After a minute, Nate pulled away, a smile on his face. I was smiling too. 

"Everett, will you be my girlfriend?", Nate asked,

"Nate, of course I will", I replied, kissing him again.

We laid there for a couple hours, looking at the sky (Nate was mostly looking at me) and kissing, eventually, we decided to go home. Colby had invited us over to his house that night and so we went to Colby's house. When we walked in, holding hands, Colby immediately looked at me, a single eyebrow raised. I nodded and his face broke into a smile. I knew he had been waiting for this for a while. 

"Nate, you've finally done it", he said.

"Colby, what are you talking about?", Nate asked.

"You finally asked Evie out"

Nate looked over at me, wondering how Colby knew. I held up our hands and Nate nodded.

"Yeah, it was a long time coming"

"Took you long enough", I replied. Nate just smiled and shook his head, pecking me on the cheek. We spent a few hours at Colby's house, before going back to my house. I offered for Nate to spend the night with me, since it was almost 2am, and I didn't want him driving home so late. He agreed and we went to bed, almost as soon as we got to my house. It was late, and we were both exhausted from our day. I smiled as I went to sleep. I was happier than I had ever been before. I had finally started dating the man I had been secretly (or not so secretly) in love with for over a year. It was wonderful, and I knew, from the second we kissed, Nate was the one.
