TAEHYUNG

My alarm goes off, startling me awake to turn it off. I look over and see that Jungkook has dozed off as well.

He holds the book limply in his lap, his head is tilted down and his hair falls into his eyes.

I smile softly as I stand, being sure not to wake him. I take the empty fruit bowl to the kitchen before going to the bathroom. I make sure to check my temperature on the way out of the bathroom, it still looks good.

When I get back to my room Jungkook is still asleep, so I sit down next to him—leaving little space between us—before nudging his head to the side. He lays his head on my shoulder, relaxing into the position with a sigh. I lay my head against his, closing my eyes as well.

It's odd being this close to someone. My mom rarely ever let me have friends over, I rarely ever wanted them over to be fair.

All my old friends either pitied me or wanted to "test" my condition by purposely trying to hurt me. They never did, but my mom would be furious when she saw the scratches or bruises they left.

It feels different with Jungkook though. Maybe it's because he doesn't know, or maybe it's because he's the first person to ever genuinely like me for me.

Regardless of the reason, I'm happy that he's here.

I wake up a few hours later to find the spot next to me empty. I look over and find our book sitting in Jungkook's spot with a sticky note stuck to the front cover.

don't go on without me! :)

I smile as I remove the note, placing it inside the book before standing from my bed.

"Mom?" I call as I leave my room, walking down the hall to find her in the kitchen cooking. "Hey,"

"Hey, bear," She smiles. "I thought you'd be asleep longer."

"Did you see Jungkook leave?" I ask, taking a seat at one of the stools in front of the counter.

"I did," She says. "He seems like a sweet boy."

"Yeah, he is," I say with a short laugh. "How was your date?"

"It was alright," She shrugs, turning to the pot in the stove. "I don't know if dating is for me. I couldn't stop comparing him to your father."

"I'm sure it's hard for a lot of people to get back out there," I say optimistically. "It's nice that you tried."

"I suppose so..." She says, falling silent for a moment. "Did you finish your water?"

"Yeah," I say. "And I peed twice, so don't even ask."

"Alright," She chuckles. "Are you still coughing?"

"I haven't coughed at all since you left," I say. "I think I'm all better."

"We'll see what Dr. Choi has to say."

"I think he's all better,"

I smile at my mom who rolls her eyes in defeat, a smile on her face as well.

"I'd say it's safe to send him back to school," Dr. Choi continues. "I do want you to start making him use the spirometer more often. Just to be sure his lungs stay strong for a long time."
