Challenge No.52 - Exercise of Perspective.
Write a scene from an animal's perspective.
-----
"This is a full moon, the kind that makes a dog feel the ancient DNA of its ancestors. The kind that brings out the wolf, even the werewolf in a soul. It was the kind of pseudo day that humans can use to walk about, but dogs never need."
"Remember this Junior, on nights like this, not all humans are out and about doing nice things."
"Yes, Papa."
"On nights like this, you have to keep a sharp eye and ear out."
"Like when they come to steal mangoes?"
"Yes, that's a good one."
"But our guardian didn't come out when we called."
"That's another thing about humans. They get guard dogs and when we call, they don't come."
"Why, Papa?"
"No idea, son. No idea."
"Is it because we're small?"
"It's true that we're Terriers, but we know how to make lots of noise. Anyway, a German Shepard lives next door and his humans don't always come when he calls."
"But why, Papa."
"It's just the way of humans."
"Papa, I see a human in the yard near our guardian's car. Do we tell him?"
"Sure. Wanna come with me?"
"Oooo yes, can I?"
"Let's go. But don't get too close to them, okay?"
"Yes, Papa."
Yap! Yap! Yap!
Yap! Yap! Yap!
Yap! Yap! Yap!
"Papa, they stopped! We did it!"
"No. They're waiting to see if a human will come out."
"Oh yeah. Papa, they're trying again."
"So, we call our guardian, again."
Yap! Yap! Yap!
Yap! Yap! Yap!
Yap! Yap! Yap!
"Rex! Shut up!"
"See, Junior? I told you."
"Do we stop?"
"No, we will try one more time."
Yap! Yap! Yap!
Yap! Yap! Yap!
Yap! Yap! Yap!
"Rex! I said shut up! I'm trying to watch a movie!"
"Papa? What now?"
"Now my young pup, we do as we're told. Let's get back to our basket before your mother comes looking for us."
"But the car, Papa, they took it."
"Of course, they did. You know it. I know it. And tomorrow when our guardian comes to feed us, he'll know it too."
