Scott immediately grabbed a boom box he had from his closet, putting it on the ground next to us. I take the tape and slide it in the slot, pressing play.

A man's voice began to speak, it was kind of disfigured.

"After entering the IP address, you will be connected through a Darknet portal to an untraceable bank. Once logged in, enter your account number to receive wire transfers." The man explained the procedure. "The IP address will deactivate with each transfer. You will be assigned a new IP address if you chose to continue down the list. Remember, visual confirmation is always required for payment."

Stiles turned off the tape. The voice sent chills down my spine.

“You ever made a wire transfer?” I asked the boys as we just continued to stare at the money. Scott shrugs. “Never had enough money.”

“So, you didn't understand a word of that, either?” Stiles said because I assume that's not what a wire transfer means.

“I don't understand any of this.” I muttered. “Why would someone use all this money just to kill us?” More importantly, how did they know about my family’s vault?

I mean someone had to tell the benefactor. I mean, someone who knew about it. And that really just leaves my family. I mean it's my family’s vault. I would say Peter, but he's furious about all of this. So it can't be him. Maybe Talia told someone who told another person till it reached the benefactor? God, so many questions.

“Someone wants you dead, dude–“ Stiles replied. “badly.”

Scott sighs and begins to shove the stacks of money back in the bag. “Whoa, whoa-- what are you doing?” Stiles questioned.

“It's late. We've got the PSATs in the morning.” Scott replied. Ugh I completely forgot about that.

“No, I meant the money.” Stiles clarified. “Five hundred thousand dollars, Scott... you know how much money that is?”

“It's five hundred thousand–“

“It's half a million dollars, Scott.” Stiles cuts in. “What are you gonna do, just slide it under your mattress?”

Scott shakes his head. “No. It’s not even ours,” he points at me. “It belongs to you.”

“You mean hers and Peter's.” Stiles muttered. “What does that mean?” I asked as I looked up at him. He said it with such distaste.

“I mean, maybe we should proceed with caution.” Stiles said apprehensively. “I'm just saying, some of that money's Peter's, right?”

I winched. “It's actually kind of all his." Stiles eyes go wide. "What?!"

"Well, after the fire my mom just shoved his part of the inheritance inside the vault since it's not like he was gonna use it."

Well, it also belongs to Cora since we thought she was dead. Most of it was inheritance money and insurance money from the fire. I told Cora what's happened actually, she's livid. Trust me when I say she wants what belongs to hers back. The money could help her and her pack drastically.

Stiles modes. “Right. Peter? Homicidal killer? Remember? You want to give five hundred thousand dollars to him?” I shake my head. “No I don’t. But it doesn't just belong to him. It belongs to Cora as well."

My part of the money was locked away in a trust fund I'm not allowed to touch till I'm at least 21. Derek used his money to buy the loft building, and my parents have been slowly using Mom's share of the money for things like bills and such.
