I've Been There For You Longer - Diavolo x Barbatos Angst (Obey Me)

Chapter 4 - Back In RAD

Diavolo had started to bond more with Barbatos, trying to get over his previous crush Lucifer. Him and Simeon were always holding hands wherever they went which made Diavolo jealous sometimes. To cure that jealousy, Barbatos would slip a hand inside Diavolo's to make him stop worrying about the couple. Barbatos gave a slight smile to Diavolo, hoping he'd cheer up from it. Diavolo smiled back at Barbatos to let him know he was feeling better about it.

'It's what couples do, Dia. As much as it doesn't seem comfortable to you, it is comfortable to them.' Barbatos looked over to the couple laughing.

'I know it's just for some reason I have this feeling of jealousy yet I'm glad for them.' Diavolo looked down and put his free hand in his pocket. 

Barbatos squeezed Diavolo's hand, 'I've got you and nothing can change that. I'll always be by your side.'

'You comfort me way too much, even on the most tiniest things Barbs.' Diavolo looked into Barbatos's dark green eyes with his amber ones. They both got distracted into staring into each other for a few minutes before Barbatos looked away.

Diavolo laughed at how embarrassed Barbatos looked, 'Can't handle a look in the eyes?'

Barbatos tried forming some words, 'I- uh- this is time consuming. There's better things to be doing. Get back to organising a meeting or something.'

'What's the need? It's our break anyways so we have a lot of time to spare.'

'45 minutes goes by fast. Look we only have 20 minutes left.' Barbatos raised his watch to shove in Diavolo's face.

'But you can do a lot in 20 minutes.'

'Like studying or cleaning or serving or-.' Diavolo cut Barbatos off with the cover of his hand. Barbatos's internally squealed, his heart now pounding even more.

'I'd rather use my break to relax than work. I can save that for later. Plus I'd still be here for the exact same time.' Diavolo removed his hand from Barbatos's mouth.

'I apologise for my rudeness.' 

'It's what makes us demons after all. Don't apologise for common emotions everyone has.'

'I am your butler though, would you not prefer to have a well behaved demon?'

'I'd prefer to see you as a friend instead of just a servant. Friends show their emotions all the time which keeps the friendship going.'

There is was the word 'friend'. He's just a friend, nothing more and will never change. Barbatos hated that word but couldn't build a romantic relationship with Diavolo no matter what he tried.

As much as Barbatos hated the word, so did Diavolo. He hated lying to himself about Barbatos just being a friend. He was sure it was the way Barbatos saw him since Barbatos never showed romantic feelings towards anything. Even so he wouldn't just start feeling this after thousands of years. It usually takes a week or a month to fall in love.

'I wonder how long it took for Lucifer and Simeon to open up to each other.' Barbatos wondered.

'Well it must've taken thousands of years since they've known each other ever since they were young.'

'Well it'll also take thousands of years for me to show my emotions and open up to you.'

'Aww wait noooo please don't hide them Barbs! I won't judge you!' Diavolo pouted like a puppy that wanted its treats.

Barbatos laughed, 'Look at you begging for such a small request. Makes me want to tease you more.' He shot a psychopathic smile.

'Barbs so cold. Nice reminder to better not get on your bad side.' Diavolo shivered.

'What a wise choice Dia, I hope you don't or else there'll be consequences for you instead.'

'Gosh is this how scary you are when you open up?'

'I thought you said you wouldn't judge me.'

'No it's just people would see you more of a monster than a friend.'

'That's the whole purpose to not get attached to anybody else.' Barbatos had a slight fear of getting close to other people just to lose them from their side. He was sure Diavolo would never leave his side though as he's still here after all this time.

'But getting friends is a fun experience. How could you not want to open up and get closer to them.'

'Well, let's say I have to focus on my duties.'

The bell rang shortly after, marking the break over.

'I told you it goes by fast.' Barbatos sneered.

'Well looks like we'll have to get back to work.' Diavolo rolled his eyes, not wanting to go back to work.

Diavolo was glad Barbatos was starting to show his true emotions. They both walked back to Diavolo's office and picked up from where they left on their work.
