Chapter 5 - Open Your Eyes

A month had passed since the heart breaking incident and Diavolo stopped caring about Lucifer as much as he used to when he was in love with him. It was a quick recovery thanks to Barbatos who helped him along the way to get over him but both of them falling deeper in love with each other yet have to hide it with the word 'friend'. The news would just spread so fast as it is Lord Diavolo, the future king, and Barbatos, the best butler anybody could ask for. Everyone would just make petitions for them to be removed from aristocracy, ruining the reputation of the royal family.

It was at the point where Barbatos didn't want to act anymore. He was just sick of using the word 'friend'. It just reminded him he could never get with Diavolo. But he couldn't just tell him like that, he would get fired and fully lose Diavolo. Bottling it up was not the best solution so he dashed to his own room where he would relax and spilled it all out.

Diavolo was able to pick up on the sound and immediately ordered Madam Scream's Macarons, it always solves everything. Shortly, the macarons came. Diavolo immediately grabbed the box and slammed open Barbatos's door by accident.

'Oops, but guess who has Madam Scream's Macarons!' Diavolo met his eyes to a green haired butler, his knees meeting his legs with his head buried in them. 'I know that was a rubbish attempt at trying to lighten the mood but are you able to tell me about it?'

Barbatos raised his head up to look at Diavolo, trying to cover his tears, 'Oh I didn't realise you came in.' Barbatos lied to try getting the attention off him so he wouldn't accidentally reveal himself. 'But I'm perfectly fine, there's no need to tell you about it.' He plastered a fake smile to reassure Diavolo nothing was wrong with him.

'Barbs I ain't taking that as the answer.' Diavolo's tone became more serious. 'I know you've been crying so tell me all about it.'

'I'm fine I'm telling you I'm fine.' Barbatos's plastered smile faded away. He looked away from Diavolo to try out it back on.

'Look at me, I'm not going to hate you for-.' Diavolo took Barbatos's chin in his hand trying to get him to look. It was at that moment Barbatos snapped in front of Diavolo for the first time in his life.

Barbatos slammed Diavolo to the wall, dripping with tears. 'Why have you been smudging in my face that im just a friend? I'm goddamn sick of it. Why can't you open your goddamn eyes and see I'm the one who loves you romantically not Lucifer? I've been there for you longer.' His voice rose even louder, not caring who heard it, 'Why can't I have you?  What's wrong with the world knowing about it? Nobody judged Lucifer and Simeon badly for being together. Why can't you open your eyes and love me back?' Barbatos's eyes widened after his realisation of actions. He covered his mouth with his white gloved hand, staining it with his tears. Diavolo grabbed Barbatos's hand that he used to cover his mouth, attempting to remove it. Barbatos shook his head, not wanting to remove it.

'Trust me, please?' Barbatos hesitatingly removed his hand away from his mouth, still quivering. Diavolo leaned in with a smile, closing his eyes to have a taste. It was even more shocking to Barbatos but still leaned in with his quivering lips.

'There's no need for pity Dia. You don't have to force yourself into this.'

'All the friend business was just an act since I thought it was how you viewed me. So I tried loving someone else only to feel the pain of it. I might as well deal with the pain from you instead and not break you heart even further by getting with someone else.'

Barbatos dug his head into Diavolo's chest, 'I'm so sorry, I'm so stupid. I love you so much.'

Diavolo kissed the top of Barbatos's head, 'It's okay Barbs, it's called jealousy. Nobody needs to know about us. I love you more.' Barbatos continued to drain his eyes until he fell asleep. A massive puddle splattered onto Diavolo's clothing. He chuckled softly before sleeping with the butler in his arms, just like Barbatos had done when Diavolo was down.

It's always best to tell the truth, since lies also hurt. It can even get you into the position you wanted. Take as long as you need but it'll eventually have to come out one day. Of course a mischievous two had come over and snapped a photo of them. Gossip eventually spread around and as they hoped, everyone accepted them for who they were.

'Let's just hope there's not that one Karen who decides to be so offended by it.' Diavolo eyed Simeon.

'Ahem, Michael, ahem, cough cough.' Simeon fake coughed to single out the not so accepting angel.

'At least we haven't had an encounter like so, right?' Lucifer laughed.

'Not as if they can stop us, I'll just stop them instead.' Barbatos proudly boasted, making a superhero pose.

At least they were all able to normally talk to each other now without having the dreadful thought of if they liked each other back.
