"Mari!"

You sit up, switching the lamp on and letting your eyes adjust.

"What the fuck? Bil, did you hear—"

Your head hurts as you try to make sense of the empty sheets besides you and the distant voice calling out your name, still being half asleep.

"FUCK!"

You jump at the sound of glass breaking nearby, falling to the ground as you stumble out of bed.

It's Billie, you dumb fuck!

Cursing yourself for taking so long to react, you sprint towards the sound of your partner's cries, panic building in your chest as the sounds of her distress become clearer.

"Mariana!"

You shush her, watching her head whip towards the sound, eyes wide and hands reaching out.

"I'm here Bil, I'm right here my love."

You wince, watching her walk on the glass you now notice on the ground, blood staining the tiled floors.

"...M-Mari?"

Your heart painfully breaks hearing her cry for you.

You stand away from her and the glass surrounding her figure, trying to find a safe way to reach the shaking girl.

"I'm gonna get you, baby, just please stay still. There's glass everywhere and you're getting hurt. I know you're scared, I know you want me, and you have me okay? I'm with you, and I'm gonna hold you real soon, and we can talk through whatever is going on okay?"

"Okay, but— Mari, I-I... I couldn't find it."

....

"...You couldn't find what?"

Her face becomes red, tears starting up again as she begins to cover her face.

"I'm sorry, Mari."

You feel your face contort into one of confusion, before finally noticing the yellow puddle on the floor, slowly following it up to the dark trails, and eventually, large spot on the crotch of Billie's sweats.

"Oh, angel, it's alright! I'm so sorry, mama. Why didn't you let me help you? You know you can wake me up, right?"

You no longer care about the mess of glass, and just decide to throw some sandles on to walk over it all.

"I didn't want to... you've worked so hard moving everything in today, and you were so tired... I th-thought I could do it. I just forgot how pathetic and dependent I am."

"Hey— stop that. You can't help being fucking blind, Billie. Go easy on yourself. We just moved, and you don't have the house down at all yet. There's no way you could've made it to the bathroom, it's all the way across the hall. It's my fault for not having the master bedroom ready, so that the bathroom would've been easy access for you."

Walking through the shards, you reach her, gently tapping her shoulder to avoid spooking her any farther.

"Here, my love. Lemme pick you up."

She pushes you away gently, her head shaking aggressively.

"N-No! I'm covered in fucking piss!"

Your heart is completely shattered by now— you hate the way Billie still gets embarrassed around you when her disability causes her to need help, or messes something up for her. It hurts you how much it hurts her.

"Billie, I don't fucking care about the pee. We're gonna be taking a bath together, anyways."

With that, you scoop her up into your arms, relaxing once you feel her give in and wrap her limbs around you.

You begin the walk to the master bedroom bathroom, stroking Bil's hair as she continues to cry from most likely embarrassment, but also pain due to the glass that's undoubtedly embedded in her feet.

"I just needed to pee, Mari. I-I just wanted to use the bathroom. You'd think after being 100% blind my whole life that I'd know how to easily adapt, but I don't. It feels brand new to me. Every. Single. Day. The wind outside scared me and I backed into a counter, knocking a box that must've contained some glass off in the process. I was so, so scared. And I just f-fucking stood there, with pee streaming down my legs as I cried. I stood there for so long, Mari. Until I just started screaming for you... that's the only thing I knew I might be able to accomplish in that moment. Getting you. I was just praying that you'd get up for me."

You set her down on the sink counter, taking her face into your hands and looking deep into her unseeing, icey blue eyes that somehow, looked right back into yours.

"And guess what, Bil?"

"What?"

"I'll always get up."
