Chapter 6: Baseless Repose

It has been a week since the end of the class match. I really went through a lot that day, although I guess some of it could be called the consequences of my own actions.

I had to spend some time in the hospital after I pushed my body too hard. After three days, I recovered enough to be sent back home.
I haven't gone back to school since the doctor told me to rest at home.
At first, I was happy about getting to skip classes. However, after a week of this, I'm completely bored since there's nothing to do.
If I tried to leave my room, my overprotective housemate would get mad at me, so I could only obediently lie in my bed all day.
I had finished reading the manga and novels that Misora had brought in for me and had gotten sick of playing games and browsing the internet on my cell phone.
By the way, doing the homework that Yuzuha brought back every day wasn't an option because they were too difficult and I don't know how to do them.

"I'll go watch some TV in the living room...."

It's a weekday afternoon, so there's probably a daytime drama on or something.
Yuzuha is at school and grandma is out shopping, so no one else is home. Now is the perfect chance to leave my room.
Anyhow, I'm already bored of lying in bed so some TV should be a welcome change of pace.



(Wait, who's there?)

Even though no one else should be home, I hear noises coming from the living room.
I sneak cautiously into the living room to find my grandma sitting on her knees, watching the TV intently.
She did not notice me as I moved closer since she was so focused on the TV.
She is so engrossed that I hesitate over whether I should call out to her or not.

"......Grandma, you're home?"

I didn't hear the front door gates when I was awake, so she must have come home while I was asleep.
Our front gate makes a loud rattling sound when it's opened, so it is easy to tell when someone is coming home.

"Hey, grandma--"
"Just shut up for a minute."
"..............."

My words are interrupted by a strong voice that left no room for argument.
Although I'm not satisfied with her response, I do as I'm told and remain quiet.
I understand from living with her after all these years that it is useless to say anything to her when she is concentrating like this.
I decide to sit in the corner of the room to not get in her way since she might complain about me distracting her if I stayed standing in that spot.
I originally came here to watch TV so I might as well watch along.

(What's she looking at so seriously...... uwah!)

For the first time since I came to this room, I turned my attention to the TV, and what I saw on the screen was not a daytime drama, news, or variety show, but an......... anime.
It was not a mainstream anime either, but an anime filled with fanservice that otaku would like.
There were enough sensual scenes of panty shots and semi-nudity to make me want to turn away. This isn't something that should be shown in the daytime.
If a housewife turned on the TV to watch a daytime drama and saw this kind of shameless anime, I'm sure she would spit out her tea and immediately call the TV station to complain.
I didn't mind that much, but more importantly, I'm starting to get confused because it feels like all the girls have the same face. I started watching in the middle of it, so I can't really keep up with the story.
I'm gradually losing interest in the anime, so my gaze ends up wandering.

(Hmm? What's that?)

There is a rectangular case placed right next to grandma.
I look closely at it and recognize that it is a Blu-ray package with a cover of the anime that's currently playing.

(Oh, so she bought it....)

Well, now that I think about it, there's no way something like this would be aired at this time of the day.
It seems that the Blu-ray player we bought a while back was for the sake of watching anime.
When I turn to my grandma, she's looking at the anime with a look of pure bliss.

(Well, I'm glad she's enjoying herself.)

My grandmother is a big fan of anime, with a wide range of tastes ranging from retro to modern.
In addition to anime, she also sometimes plays video games and reads manga.

"Ah, how wonderful. I knew this studio's works are first class."
"Have you finished watching ?"
"Oh, Chiharu. How long have you been here?"
"We talked just earlier!"
"Did we?"

Grandma tilted her head in confusion. Looks like she really didn't notice me.

"You said you were going shopping. Did you go to buy the anime just now?"
"Yeah, that's right. I pre-ordered it a while ago and finally got it today. It's the rare limited edition version."
"Ah, is that so? That's nice.."
"The pre-order bonus is a figure of the main character, _____, in ___ version!"

Grandma talked enthusiastically while throwing out terms I didn't understand. While explaining, she took out a figure of a beautiful girl in a seductive pose.
Seeing how delighted she was, I was worried that she'll soon become a figure collector.
She might still be fine now, but I heard once people start collecting those things they won't stop.
I don't intend to complain about her hobbies, but I'm not too enthusiastic about the idea of a house being filled with figures.

"By the way, Chiharu. Since you're sick, should you be out of your room?"
"I already said that I'm fine now. Yuzuha is just worrying too much."
"Hmmm... you certainly seem healthy. It should be fine for you to go back to school tomorrow."

I have mixed feelings about having to go back to school, but I'm happy that I can finally freely move around again.

"But you'll have to stop by the hospital on your way home from school tomorrow. Just in case something happens."
"Okay."
"And while you're at it, go to the bookstore and pick up some of the usual magazines."
"...Okay."

I just recovered and she's making me run errands already.
Although I do prefer her carefree attitude over how much Yuzuha worries about me.

"I'll be going to my room to read the extra materials included in this package. I won't be using the TV anymore, so go ahead."
"Ah...alright."

Grandma, in a good mood after watching her beloved anime, hummed the theme song as she left.
I was left alone in the room and decided to turn on the TV as I had originally intended.

But...
