The Portuguese friar , travelling in the region in the 17th century, noted the multitude of milk-based foods and sweets prepared in traditional ways. , and are popular sweet foods and desserts. Typical bengali sweets can be traced back in ancient times in the bengali household. In Bengal sweets are called "misti". The most famous are rasgulla , sweet curd, sandesh. Bengali people are known to be having a natural sweet tooth.
