Miles..

The biggest mistake of my life was letting Vanessa go through most of the pregnancy alone. She had to go through the ultrasounds, tests, morning sickness and all the things involved in pregnancy alone!
I so hate my self now. I just hope her agreeing to come back with me is the start of a new beginning for both of us.

It's been a month since she came back, and her being in her third trimester. I took it upon myself to stay at home and take care of my wife and our baby.
I'm trying to make up for the lost time but I know nothing's going to be enough.

She set some ground rules though...

"We are going to live under the same roof for the sake of the baby, once he/she is born we're moving out of here. And you will send to me the divorce papers with your signature on it." She said.
After much persuading, begging and tears,(and trust me she agreed to stay with me till the baby was at least 5 years old. That's a lot considering what she went through. Even though I hate to agree I feel this will give her some closure.

She also agreed to share our previous bedroom with me, as I said I wouldn't want her to need me for anything in the night while I'm across the hall. She agreed but her things are all in the guest bedroom.

"Vanessa, are you okay?"

It's 2am in the morning and Vanessa is tossing on the bed in her sleep rubbing her lower abdomen like she's in pain.
I switch on the bedside lamp and I see her eyes are closed, her face contorted in pain.
I go into full fledged panic mood she's in labour. I take deep breaths trying to calm the rising panic and doing my best to remember the instructions we were given at the hospital I shake her gently while calling her name, I attempt to wake her up. Her eyes fly open and as they land on me I feel my heart beating like it's going to break out of my chest at any minute.

"Vanessa, are you okay? What's wrong? Talk to me, please!"

It seems to take her too much effort to speak. I fly from the bed, running towards the telephone, dialing Smith.

"Get the car, we're going to the hospital." I yell, into the phone.
I don't wait for him to answer, I know he heard me.

Running back to Vanessa, I help her put on a loose maternity gown, with great difficulty.
With Smith's help we get her to the car as Smith gets into the driver seat.

Smith hands me a sweatpant and a shirt, that's when I realize in my panic I almost went to the hospital in only my boxers. I quickly wear them on as we drive fast but gently to the hospital which is just 5 minutes from my place.

3 hours later....

I'm still sitting in the waiting room waiting for the doctor.
Vanessa was taken to the emergency unit and she's been there since we got here.

I've been restless since, Smith went home and left Paul my best friend to stay with me not that I care if I'm alone or not.
I just need to know my wife's alright.
The nurses are tired and scared shitless because of me.

I collect the coffee Paul brought to me, not that I'm going to drink it.
I see the doctor who's attending to my wife come out of the hospital ward.
She's been transferred to a room but they're still not allowing me see her.

"Come to my office, Mr Williams". Dr. Annabelle, my wife's cousin says.

I follow her impatiently, boiling with frustration, I hope my wife's okay, God help them.
