I was startled awake by my phone going off. I blinked the sleep away from my eyes and looked at my phone, it was a text from an unknown number.
???
Hey, is this the healer?
1:30 AMI looked at the text, confused.
Me:
Who's asking? How did you get my number?
1:32They took a second to respond.
???
I'm Cheshire, Nuke needs help.
1:34God damn it, this is why I don't help people.
Me:
How bad is it?
1:35???
It's pretty bad, we had a run-in with Flame and Dream.
1:36Me:
Meet me in the back alley behind The Gold Leaf Cafe, do you know where it is?
1:37???
Yeah, I know where it is.
1:38I got up quietly, my roommates were asleep so I had to be very careful, they had taken the bedroom again so that made it a little easier to leave. I managed to get out the door quietly and get to the cafe. I got to the back alley and saw Cheshire supporting a barely conscious Nuke, the taller blond boy looked worried.
I walked over and unlocked the back door, letting the two villains inside. I didn't say anything, sure my thoughts were going a million miles a second, but was I going to show that? No, I have gotten good at hiding things.
I got out a clean sheet and put it on the ground after turning on the light. Cheshire gently placed his brown-haired companion down on the sheet. I got a good look at him and I let out an involuntary hiss. Oh boy, Cheshire was not exaggerating when he said it was bad.
Nuke's entire body was covered in burns, some worse than others, his clothes and hair were singed in some places.
I also got a good look at Cheshire, his mask was a little different from Nukes, while yes it was a gas mask it was more of what you would see if you were maybe working with fumes. It was also red with white accents, whereas Nuke's was black and the full gas mask that covered one's face all the way, which kind of made sense with what his power was. Both masks most likely held their voice changers.
"Aren't heroes supposed to immobilize not kill?" I mumbled, grabbing the first aid kit.
Cheshire nods.
"Didn't stop Flame though." He said.
"No shit," I said, crouching down to clean Nuke's burns.
When I was done I put the first aid kit to the side. I had removed any extra articles of clothing to get to the burns better, ie a sash with a few daggers on it, and a bomber jacket. I didn't touch his mask. Their identities were none of my business.
I let out a small sigh as I placed my hands lightly on the now unconscious villain's arm. I concentrated and my hands started to glow a soft gold. Cheshire looked at me in amazement, or at least I could guess that's what his expression was as I could only see his eyes. But I didn't let him distract me. I watched as the burns slowly healed, the minor ones disappearing, some of the nastier ones left scars, but the third-degree ones I couldn't heal fully before I had to stop. My head and arms were aching, the arms thing was new. I was panting softly.
Cheshire then looked at me in concern. His blue eyes reminded me of Phil's almost, except Phil's were slightly lighter in color. I broke eye contact and looked at Nuke, he would live thankfully.
"I'm fine, just side effects of my power," I said.
"I haven't healed burns like this before," I added under my breath.
