Mel and I had a special bond now, but we had met under crazy circumstances. Let me explain.

A few days earlier, I had decided to take a walk around the neighborhood. To kind of get my bearings. But that's when it all went downhill. I noticed a truck following me. Making all the same turns. I tried to shake them by starting to run, but they kept up with me.

I started to get scared. Then, the truck driver opened the window and yelled, "Hey, stop for a moment!" I didn't stop. "Come on, pretty girl! I just wanna talk!" He shouted. I was pretty sure he didn't want to talk. So I did the most reasonable thing to do in that situation. I started sprinting. The truck went faster. "Hey! Stop!" The truck driver yelled again. I stopped and turned the opposite direction and ran that way, trying to shake the truck.

I ran to the closest house and knocked on the door. No one answered. Then, I tried the window. Inside, there was a dark-skinned girl with a long, thick, black braid. I tapped the window. She didn't notice. I knocked. She was still oblivious. The truck would come back soon. So I banged on the window. That got her attention.

She opened the window. "What are you doing?" She asked. Without answering, I dove into her room. "Close the window!" I said. She slams it shut. I breathed a sigh of relief. Then I noticed the girl's glare. "Wanna explain what the hell your doing in my room?" She practically yelled. " I'm so sorry!" I said. I explained my situation, and the girl calmed down. "I get it, but still," she said, "Next time, ask before you jump through someone's window." My face went red.

After that, we introduced each other. I learned that the girl's name is Mel. We talked a bit more, but then decided I should go home. "Will I see you around?" I asked. "You betcha!" Mel replied.

And that's the story of how I met the girl that would change my life, Mel Parker.
