"But Mr Michaelson, you cannot be serious!" Mikayla protested, shooting up from her seat with such force that her chair clattered to the ground. The feisty blonde curled her hands into fists as rage swam in her baby blue eyes, quite clearly unable to grasp the fact that Mr Michaelson had paired her up with possibly the most arrogant jerk to walk the Earth. Out of everyone, of course it had to be him, Derek freaking Hale.
"Miss Griffin, I feel as though it would do both you and Mr Hale some good working together, I think you'd be mildly surprised at how well things turn out." The chemistry teacher calmly responded, completely ignoring her little outburst. Mr Michaelson was only doing what he had to, giving fate a little push perhaps. Despite the two being unaware, they desperately needed each other.
"I've been doing so well, why are you punishing me?"
"I'm not punishing you, Mikayla. I just think that you and Mr Hale have a lot to offer each other and if I hear another word about it you'll be sent straight to the principals office, do you understand?" He answered, quickly growing tired of the blonde's refusal.
"Yes, sir." Mikayla mumbled, collecting her books as she furiously glared at Derek, who was doing all he could not to laugh. Despite being terrifying when angry, she was also incredibly adorable, maybe a bit like a bulldog.
"Good. Now, for the last time, please go join Mr Hale at your new lab table." Mr Michaelson hummed, gesturing towards the lab desk where Derek was seated, still attempting to hide his amusement. Key word- trying.
"And what are you so pleased about?" Mikayla grumbled, still glaring at the dark-haired boy beside her.
"I find it quite amusing how much you absolutely detest me."
"Yeah, funny that. I suppose it wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that you and your little girlfriend liked to make a game out of tormenting me."
"Oh, come on! We did not 'torment' you, you're such a drama queen!"
"Just stop talking to me, okay? This is already painful enough." Mikayla groaned, watching Mr Michaelson approach the two.
"Miss Griffin and Mr Hale, for two people who wanted to be with anyone but each other, you seem to be having trouble keeping quiet. For the first task, you will have to research an element and create a 7 minute video on it and the elements uses. I expect big things from you two. Now, which element did you want?"
"Zinc." Both Derek and Mikayla said, sending each other a sideways look of surprise.
"Well, that was easy. You will have this class on it, but it must be presented next lesson an- oh for the love of God! Betty, put that down!" Mr Michaelson said, rushing over to the front of the classroom where a brunette girl was messing around with Mr Michaelson's prized possession, the skeleton.
"Okay, if we work really hard we can get it done this lesson-"
"Mikayla, it's a 7 minute video, the research alone will take the whole lesson. We present on Friday meaning I get the pleasure of going to your house after school everyday until Friday." Derek grinned, flashing the annoyed blonde his award winning smile. If there was anything Derek enjoyed, it would definitely be irritating Mikayla.
"I don't think we need to work on it everyda-"
"If you're aiming for straight As again, then yes, we will need to work on it everyday." Derek interrupted, his grin not fading, instead only growing as she huffed in annoyance.
"Why are you so happy? I thought you were supposed to be all depressed after everything that happened with Paige." Mikayla hissed under her breath, assuming Derek couldn't hear her, but unfortunately he could and those words were enough to send him straight out of his seat and running out of class, his books pressed tightly to his chest. "Oh, great! Yeah of course, leave me to do all the work!" Mikayla called after him, ignoring the sickening feeling of guilt settling in her stomach. Shaking it off, Mikayla dived into her chemistry text book, highlighting every sentence containing the word 'Zinc'. It wasn't her fault, it wasn't as if he could have heard her anyway, she thought, but the little voice at the back of her head nagged otherwise..
-
"How was class?" Kate Argent asked, approaching her younger friend before casually leaning up against the locker beside Mikayla's.
"Awful, you'll never believe what happened! My new lab partner is Derek Hale, I mean, seriously, out of all the people!" Mikayla groaned, harshly shoving her books into her locker in anger.
"I dunno, he is cute." The older blonde shrugged, her curls bouncing against her shoulders. Kate was a year older than Mikayla and since the two were such close family friends, they were basically sisters, even looking similar, but Mikayla was a lot kinder than Kate and more caring.
"Kate! He is a terrible person, do you not recall me coming to you crying day after day because of some stupid thing he or Paige had said to me?!" Mikayla exclaimed, staring at her friend in shock.
"People change. Anyway I gotta go, but will I see you at self-defence training this afternoon?"
"Can't, I think Derek is coming over to work on our project." Mikayla replied, rolling her eyes as she thought about her afternoons plans.
"Right, well I'll probably be over later. Catch ya, Pipsqueak!" Kate called out to Mikayla, already heading off to her next class.
Despite the small age gap, Kate absolutely loved the fact that she was older and often paraded it, giving Mikayla embarrassing nicknames such as 'Pipsqueak' and 'Little Duck', but after dealing with it her whole life, it rarely fazed Mikayla now. Although, Mikayla couldn't help but feel disappointed as she realised she would be missing training all week, especially since this week they were moving onto archery, which just so happened to be Mikayla's personal favourite. After all, her aim was impeccable.
Mikayla quickly rushed off to gym class as the bell rang out through the hallways. She despised being late and gym with Mr Durnward was definitely not a good class to be late for, he didn't take well to tardiness. As she made her way to class, the nagging feeling of worry began to sink in, yet she was unsure of why she would even be worried. Before long, her unasked question was soon answered as she walked into the gym. The room was dark and seemingly empty apart from a crouched figure in the middle of the courts, which stood as she entered, a malicious grin visible on the creature's otherwise hidden face.
"Just kill me quickly." Mikayla gulped, taking deep breaths to calm herself down.
"Oh no, my dear, now why would I do that?" A male voice responded, Mikayla's breath catching in her throat as he stood into the light.
"No way.." She whispered, surprise and shock drowning her fear. One thing was for sure, Mikayla definitely would not be making it to class anytime soon or in one piece.
