"For the last time, Derek, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the front door." Mikayla sighed as Derek made his way into Mikayla's neat bedroom through her window. Mikayla was standing at her vanity applying mascara, getting ready to hang out with Kaiden when the blonde's favourite beta shrugged in response and looked at her with a serious expression covering his features.

"Don't go."

"What are you talking about?" She questioned, staring at his reflection in her mirror.

"It's not safe, say you have the flu or something and you can't go."

"Are you talking about me going to get ice-cream with Kaiden?" Mikayla scoffed, now turning her attention to her hair.

"Yes! Here, I'll call him for you." Derek said, walking over to her bedroom phone which was stationed next to her bed, but Mikayla blocked his path.

"I'll be fine. Don't get jealous, it's just as friends." she teased, smirking at the determined boy in front of her.

"That isn't what I'm concerned about."

"Then what's your problem?"

"Okay, maybe that is what I'm concerned about. Doesn't matter, we haven't figured out the gym incident yet, so it isn't safe. Please just stay here with me?" Derek pleaded, the look in his eye making the hunter-in-training crack slightly.

"Give me one good reason."

That seemed to be what Derek had been waiting for as he gave her a small smile and stepped closer to her, gently cupping Mikayla's cheek as her breathing hitched. Closing his eyes, Derek took the chance he had been dying for and pressed his lips to hers. The blonde's eyes immediately snapping shut as she timidly wrapped her arms around his neck and drew him in even closer. Pure bliss erupted throughout the two teens, despite the shock settling in Mikayla's stomach. Pulling away, they both grinned at each other.

"Mm, yep. Okay, that was definitely a pretty good reason." Mikayla said, sheepishly smiling at her bare feet. "I'll-uh-I'll give Kaiden a call now."

Kaiden wasn't thrilled, but after Mikayla promised to reschedule sometime, he let up and agreed, leaving the girl to spend the rest of the night with Derek. Surprisingly, it wasn't awkward between them at all. The two really just spent the time watching movies and playing card games, doing nothing more than enjoying each others company.

"Mikayla, can I ask you something?" Derek asked, shuffling the deck of Uno cards.

"Depends."

"Well, you know that thing we did when I first came over? I want to be able to do it whenever I want."

"Derek, what are you trying to say?" Mikayla questioned, looking up at the boy who abandoned the deck and just focused on the girl in front of him.

"Look, I know you hated me, trust me I hated you too - not the point, sorry - but I've been wanting to kiss you for a while now and I have never felt as good as what I did when I finally kissed you. God, Mikayla, I kinda really like you. Subconsciously, I think I have for a while now and I think that's what made me tell you the truth about me, but that still isn't the point. This is the point- Mikayla, will you please be my girlfriend?"

"Derek, I'm a hunter." Mikayla deadpanned, forcing herself to avoid his eyes.

"I don't care, I really don't care, all I care about is you." Derek told her, the desperation in his voice being enough for Mikayla to give in and genuinely smile at the boy in front of her.

"That's so cliché, but yes, I would be honoured to be your girlfriend." The blonde said, her bubbly laughter bring a smile to Derek's face.

"Thank God, that could have gotten really awkward." he joked, grinning in relief as his girlfriend pulled herself closer to him.

"It could have, but guess what? I kinda really like you too." She whispered, bringing their lips together for the second time that night.

Much to Mikayla's surprise, she didn't hear from Derek at all the next day. Instead, she went out to the woods with Kate to practice their shooting, which was something Mr Argent was going to be assessing. As per usual, Kate's shooting was perfect, not missing a target, but with Mikayla's mind everywhere, she hit just about everything except for the targets.

"Okay, what's up? I've never seen you shoot so badly." Kate said, turning to the now-frustrated blonde who was glaring at her gun.

"How come you were told about the whole werewolf thing before Chris and I?"

"I figured it out, showed my father and he told me everything then. I was promised not to say anything to either of you because they didn't think you were ready yet. Just a tad too innocent."

"Kate, I don't want to be hunter." Mikayla admitted, letting her gaze meet Kate's amused one.

"Don't be ridiculous, Little Duck. Normally, your a flawless huntress, Dad eve wants you to take over being the leader when you come of age! I'm too hot-headed to lead us, but Dad believes that you'll be the perfect leader and since you're the most exceptional fighter he has come across in a while, there is no way you're getting out of this. You're fate was decided the second you disarmed Chris on your first day of training, sorry, hun." Kate told her, reloading her gun and thrusting it towards Mikayla. "Here, try again. Just focus and take a deep breath. Clear your mind."

Mikayla followed Kate's instructions and just as usual, Mikayla shot the wooden target with no worries. The youngest blonde smiled softly to herself despite what Kate had just told her, she didn't want to lead them, she didn't even want to be one of them, but she couldn't deny the thrill that came with a perfect shot. Kate cheered loudly for Mikayla, the two laughing together when Kate told her to do it again. This time she made the target, but barely missed a very familiar figure with an unimpressed look on his face.

"Okay, I get it. You guys are trying to outdo me, well good news, you already did, like three years ago!" Chris exclaimed, rolling his eyes as he approached the two girls. "What's this anyway? Secret training?"

"Stress relief, I thought it would do Pipsqueak some good." Kate answered simply, smiling softly at her older brother, who just smiled back.

"What are you talking about?" Mikayla questioned, quickly whipping around to face the two Argent siblings.

"Ever since that incident at the gym, you've been really on edge. At first I thought you were hiding something, but then I realised how silly that was and decided you were just still really shaken up. By the way you were shooting at the start, I confirmed that you're just shaken up, but, hey, it's okay. Derek won't get away with it and you'll be fine. Try not to think about it." Kate explained.

"It wasn't Derek." Mikayla said, looking down.

"How do you know?"

"I just do, it wasn't him, please, believe me."

"Mikayla, you don't have feelings for Derek, do you?" Kate questioned, stepping towards the youngest child.

"I-"

"End it right now. Mikayla, sweetheart, it won't end well for either of you and I don't want to listen to you cry about how you had to shoot your boyfriend in the face. I'm sorry, I am, but it's too dangerous, don't let it go on." Kate interrupted, placing her hands on Mikayla's shoulders and forcing her to look up at her. "I'm just trying to look out for you."

"I know." Mikayla mumbled, looking Kate dead in the eye as a sickening feeling rested in her stomach. She knew Kate was right, but how could something that felt so good, be so wrong? They were strong and they could make it work, Mikayla told herself, praying to God that she was right.
