JASON POV
I looked around the room to find them all staring at me. Numerous looks of query, anger and confusion were thrown all at once.
I sighed. I will have to go down the long lane of dark memories again. But there ain't no other choice. They deserve to know.
"I know Mia since we were kids. We were neighbours. She was always this well mannered and soft spoken kid whom everyone adored. She was a bubble of pure esctasy and joy. Always so energetic and happy."
I smiled at the bits and fragments of my life which strengthened me enough to keep going. The fragments which keep me going till now.
"One day I was sitting on the bench of the park in our neighbourhood. I had a bad day. My parents were always under the influence of drugs. They never once cared for me. Always beat me up and left me to starve for days on end."
"I was sitting alone and had my head down when I saw a pair of small feet stand infront of me. I looked up to see a little girl standing in front of me with a chocolate roll on one of her hand while a lily on her other one. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail and tied by a ribbon. Her baby feet were cladded in socks and she had the most beautiful smile I had even seen adorned on her face."
"Well needless to say, It was Mia. She handed me her roll and then her flower. She just shoved them in my hand so I couldn't return them. She asked me the have them, kissed me on the cheek and left but not before giving me a heart-melting smile."
"I had the roll and felt contended since I had been hungry for days. Though it wasn't much but for me, it was a lot. No one had ever cared enough to take even a single glance at me. All the kids were scared of me, but here was the sweetest girl on the planet who not only approached me and somehow knew what I needed, and helped me without me even asking for it."
"I vowed that day that I would return her favour someday. But you know what was more shocking? It wasn't me who returned the favour. She became an angel in my life."
"Her parents let me stay at their house whenever I needed them. Treated me like their goddamn son. Fed me. She played with me, leaving behind all her others friends just because she didn't want me to feel alone and left out. Trust me, I never felt those feelings ever while we were together."
"One day, my parents found out and beat me up black and blue for seeking comfort from them. The last straw was drawn on that day. That day still haunts me." I shivered at the memory.
I looked around to find their eyes silently urging me to speak further. I closed my eyes and a tear slipped out. I opened my eyes and continued.
"I was with Mia at the park that day. We were playing till late evening, so the park was almost empty. Out of nowhere, my parents came there, heavily drugged and started dragging me back to the hell they called 'home'. I fought with all my strength but couldn't do anything."
"Mia was horrified. She had never met my parents before and I am glad that she didn't. That little girl ran up to me and held me tight. She hit my mom with her tiny fists and then my dad, but we all knew they were no good."
"Then-"
I hesitated at the memory.
"Then my dad left my arm and walked upto the scared girl. He pushed her with so much force that her little body toppled to the ground and she hit her head on the metal bars on the park."
"I screamed and thrashed to get to her. Nothing helped. No one helped."
"Her head started bleeding but nevertheless, she still stood up to reach me again. I tried to stop her and hold her in my arms. Nothing stopped that determined girl. Everything went in vain."
"She stood up yet again and tried to walk up to me but she suddenly fell to ground and fell limp. I screamed as loud as I could and fortunately, I saw a few people run upto her in the corner of my eye, just before I was dragged away by them."
"The tortures that night didn't hurt me even a bit. My mind was only on the damage they left Mia in. I couldn't take it anymore. I took a nearby beer bottle and broke it on my dad's head and he was out cold on the floor. The hit and the drugs successfully killed him."
I let out another shaky breath. Sasha, as I know her now as, looked shocked and sad at the new information.
"I ran away from my mom and took shelter in a orphanage. I stayed there till I was 22. I helped around there even after 18 so they let me stay."
"I chose to move out once I got involved in the mafia. I didn't want people coming after me to reach those innocent children. All through the years, me and Mia still stayed close."
"I apologised to her and her entire family for being the reason she was hurt and they forgave me happily. Her parents died when she was 10 and to see her cry throughout that period was heart wrenching. Her grandfather and grandmother raised us then."
"I had to leave her behind because I couldn't see her hurt in the same way she was by my parents. And it would kill me knowing this time I caused her pain. Why you may think, but we all know, I am my parents' son. I am gonna just turn out like them in the end. I just couldn't. I am sorry."
I was crying by the time I stopped speaking. I felt soft hands creep around my waist and wrap themselves around me. I turned back to see a sleepy and teary eyes Mia.
"No need to say sorry Jas. Just don't leave again. I can't fight them without you. You are nothing like your parents."
Saying this she laid her head on my lap and fell asleep hugging me. God. I missed her so much. I regret not being there for her. But who is this 'them'?
"Who is she talking about?" I asked Sasha.
She looked surprised. Her mouth opened and closed but no words came out of her mouth. She gaped like a fish. This boosted up my suspicion. Something was wrong. Very wrong.
I guess I wasn't the only one who felt so. I know Greyson and Alex do too.
"Who. Was. She. Talking. About?" A deadly cold voice spoke up. Alex. He looked calm.
Way too calm.
Eerily calm.
The calm before the storm.
"Uhm....I don't think its my story to tell." She hesitantly spoke up.
"I think I deserve to know who troubled my sister. Speak. Up. Sasha." I spoke up.
"Uh...." She trailed.
"Speak up Sasha. We just wanna help." Greyson spoke up in a soft tone.
She let out a sigh and what she said next shook me.
"Her high-school bullies"
My blood boiled. I saw red all over. MY BABY SISTER WAS BULLIED. OH MY HELL. May all the angels and reapers guard and protect the souls of those who wronged my sister. Nothing and absolutely no one can save them from the wrath that is about to fore come.
A BLOODY BLOOD BATH IS ABOUT TO BE WAGED.
