Don't Dare Me to Fall

'Cause I will.

I think she will be the death of me, Ely thought.

"Oh-oh my. Ely, Sugar plum!" Lucy called.

Ely sighed disappointedly but came nevertheless because of some force.
An uncontrollable one I imagine, she thought to herself, reaching Lucy.

"Yes?" Asked Ely.

"How about lemon drops?" Questioned Lucy, skewing the bag of lemon drops before Ely's face.

"You can. But I'm going to get chocolate. I don't like sour things." Ely said.

"Yeah, that's why you don't like Edmund." Lucy agreed.

"I like Edmund. What do you mean?" Asked Ely, confused.

"Oh yeah, yeah! I just meant..." Lucy mumbled, placed the bag back down.

"Not like that..." she mumbled quietly, kicking the pebble floor, muttering hateful, angered statements about her bravery and courage.

"Hey!" Ely called at the chocolate counter.

When she returned to Lucy outside at town square she held a chocolate swan delicately.

"Oh!" Lucy happily exclaimed.
"They're all so gay!"
"Yeah." Ely happily sighed, looking off to the town's inhabitatders in a distance.

"Let's go join their dances!" Lucy cheered.

"I don't like dancing, especially in front of others." Ely said.

"Oh...all right, I understand. But I'm heading in!" Lucy said, tumbling into the circle of dancers and ballerinas.

Ely smiled and laughed every time Lucy tripped and twirled.

Lucy felt so childish, but the most alive she's ever been, especially with Ely watching her.

"Look at that tree." Lucy said.

"Yeah, it's beautiful." Ely whispered softly, grabbing Lucy's hand and pulled her along slowly.

"I'll dance here. How about it? For old time's sake?" Ely quietly and gently said.

"You act like you're going off to war." Lucy commented, shaking her head with a smile.
